Forbes Horan
Forbes Trevor Horan was the Anglican Bishop of Tewkesbury from 1960 to 1973. The son of a clergyman, Horan was educated at Sherborne and Trinity Hall, Cambridge. After a short military career in the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry he studied for ordination at Westcott House, Cambridge and from 1933 embarked on curacies in Newcastle upon Tyne before wartime service in the RNVR. Livings in Shrewsbury and Huddersfield followed before his elevation to the suffragan bishopric of Tewkesbury Tewkesbury ( ) is a medieval market town and civil parish in the north of Gloucestershire, England. Robert Deakin
Thomas Carlyle Joseph Robert Hamish Deakin, known as Robert Deakin (1917–1985), was the Anglican Bishop of Tewkesbury from 1973 until his death in 1985. He was born in the village of Parkend in The Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, the son of Thomas Carlyle Deakin and Harriet Herries Deakin. His grandfather and his father had both been J.P.s and, at different times, managers of Parkend Colliery. When the mine closed, in 1944, his father trained to become an Anglican priest, eventually becoming rector of St Giles in Uley and Holy Cross in Owlpen, Gloucestershire. The Rt Rev Edward Barry Henderson DSC (22 March 1910''England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index, 1916–2007'' – 12 June 1986) was Bishop of Bath and Wells from 1960 to 1975. The son of Edward Henderson, former Dean of Salisbury, Henderson was born in Derby''1911 England Census'' and educated at Radley and Trinity College, Cambridge (BA 1931, MA 1942). He trained for ordination at Cuddesdon College and was ordained deacon in 1934 and priest in 1935. After a curacy in Pimlico at St Gabriel's, Warwick Square (1934-35) and Curate-in-charge at All Saints, Grosvenor Road (1936-39) he was Rector of Holy Trinity, Ayr from 1939 until 1947 (a period which encompassed wartime service in the RNVR). Bishop Of Tewkesbury
The Bishop of Tewkesbury is an episcopal title used by a suffragan bishop of the Church of England Diocese of Gloucester, in the Province of Canterbury, England. The title takes its name after the town of Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire, but the bishop's responsibilities cover the whole diocese. As with all suffragan sees, the need for the see of Tewkesbury is reconsidered every time it falls vacant. In both 2013 and 2016, the diocesan synod recommended that a new bishop be appointed, concluding that the need for a bishop was greater than ever. The first Bishop of Tewkesbury, Austin Hodson, was consecrated on 24 February 1938, as a suffragan to the Bishop of Gloucester. The longest-serving bishop to date was John Went, who retired in 2013 after 17 years in post. The only bishop to have died in office was Robert Deakin, who died on 3 August 1985, aged 68.
