For The Love Of Ada (film)
''For the Love of Ada'' is a 1972 British comedy film directed by Ronnie Baxter and starring Irene Handl, Wilfred Pickles, Barbara Mitchell and Jack Smethurst. It is a spin-off from the television series ''For the Love of Ada''. Plot Walter and Ada Bingley (Wilfred Pickles and Irene Handl), an elderly couple, are about to celebrate their first wedding anniversary. To celebrate, their family, friends and neighbours plan a surprise party. Their daughter Ruth entrusts her husband Leslie Pollitt with the organisation. They hire a traditional club hall for the event. On the night though Walter and Ada do their own thing and the party goes on without them. With most of the alcohol consumed a traditional knees-up begins. Leslie eventually finds them and drags them in for a meal, but they have already eaten. Harry Driver (13 May 1931 – 25 November 1973) was a British television scriptwriter and executive producer. He is best remembered for his partnership with Vince Powell on comedy television programmes including '' Never Mind The Quality Feel The Width'', '' Nearest and Dearest'', '' Bless This House'' and '' Love Thy Neighbour''. Biography Driver formed an amateur comedy act with Vince Powell known as Hammond and Powell, which performed in the Northern club circuit. Driver developed polio in December 1955. According to the BFI Screenonline, he spent "the next 18 months in hospital (12 of them in an iron lung), and, unable to move his arms and legs, the rest of his life in a wheelchair. ... Rose Lilian Hill (5 June 1914 – 22 December 2003) was an English actress and operatic soprano, who remains best known for her role as Madame Fanny La Fan in the British television series '' 'Allo 'Allo!''.
