Football In Sierra Leone
Football is the most popular sport in Sierra Leone. The governing body is the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA). The SLFA was formed in 1960 and has been affiliated with FIFA beginning the same year. There has been and continues to be trouble within the sport in Sierra Leone. In the past, however, the country has achieved a modicum of success in international competition. National competition The Sierra Leone National Premier League is the top football league in Sierra Leone, with 14 teams. At the completion of each season, the two worst teams are relegated to the second tier, and their places taken by promoted teams. East End Lions and Mighty Blackpool are the two biggest and most successful football clubs, but Kallon F.C. is also improving, winning the Premier League in 2006. The Sierra Leone Football Association is the governing body of football in Sierra Leone. It was founded in 1960 (current association), and affiliated to FIFA the same year. It organizes and runs the national leagues, including the Sierra Leone National Premier League, Sierra Leonean FA Cup, and the national football teams, including the under-17, under-20, under-23, and the senior national team. 2003 FIFA U-17 World Championship
The 2003 FIFA U-17 World Championship, was the tenth edition of FIFA U-17 World Championship. It was held in the cities of Helsinki, Tampere, Lahti and Turku in Finland between 13 and 30 August 2003. Players born after 1 January 1986 could participate in this tournament. Some controversy followed the tournament after a number of players from the Sierra Leone squad defected to Finland. The Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation (RSSSF) is an international organization dedicated to collecting statistics about association football. The foundation aims to build an exhaustive archive of football-related information from around the world. The Association Sportive des Employés de Commerce Mimosas, literally Mimosas Commerce Employees' Sporting Association, is an Côte d'Ivoire, Ivorian Association football, football club based in Abidjan. The 2007 CAF Champions League was the 43rd occurrence of the CAF Champions League, the most prestigious club football competition in Africa. Étoile du Sahel of Tunisia became champions for the first time, beating Al Ahly SC of Egypt 3–1 in a two-legged final. Ocean Boys Football Club was a Nigerian football club based in Brass, Bayelsa State. History Ocean Boys F.C. was founded in 2002 by Sylva Nathaniel Ngo, the chairman of Brass Local Government. Sylva formed the team to help curb the restiveness among youths in the Niger Delta and "keep the youths away from vices by channelling their energies into worthy endeavours." They were promoted to the top division in Nigerian football, the Nigerian Premier League within three years and were the 2006 league champions in their first season.
