Football is the most popular sport in San Marino, as well as in Italy, the country within which it is an enclave. Domestic football The San Marino Championship, founded under the auspices of the FSGC (San Marino Football Federation), is the premier footballing competition in San Marino. Fifteen teams take part in the competition, which are split into two groups of eight and seven teams. The top three teams from each section progress to a semi-knockout style Championship Playoff. The playoff champion earns a spot in the preliminary rounds of the Europa League, and in 2007, UEFA granted San Marino a spot in the 1st Qualifying Round of the Champions League. The San Marino Football Federation (FSGC) ( it, Federazione Sammarinese Giuoco Calcio) is the governing body of football in San Marino. It organises the San Marino football league ( Campionato Sammarinese), a national cup (Coppa Titano), a super cup (Trofeo Federale) and the San Marino national football team. Tampere United
Tampere United is a Finnish football club from the city of Tampere. The club plays in Kakkonen, the third highest level of football in Finland. The club had a team in Veikkausliiga, the premier football league in Finland, until the end of the 2010 season. It was excluded from participating in Finnish football during the 2011 season amidst suspicions of money laundering. The club was kept alive by its supporters, who entered a team called TamU-K in Kutonen, the lowest level of football in Finland, in 2012. Davide Gualtieri (born 27 April 1971) is a Sammarinese former footballer who played as a forward. He scored the second fastest goal in FIFA World Cup qualification history, against England on 17 November 1993. Gualtieri held the fastest goal record for over 23 years. In the match, which took place in Bologna, Italy, San Marino had the kick off and the ball was quickly played through the inside right channel. England defender Stuart Pearce attempted a back pass to goalkeeper David Seaman. Pearce's pass was under hit, and Gualtieri ran on to touch the ball past Seaman. San Marino Academy, or simply San Marino, is a football club based in the City of San Marino, San Marino, who play in the Italian football league system. The women's team made their debut in the Serie A, the top division of Italian women's football, in 2020–21.
