Football At The 1998 Goodwill Games
The women's soccer tournament at the 1998 Goodwill Games was held from July 25 to 27, 1998. It was the first time women's football was played at the Goodwill Games, and the second time the sport was played overall. No men's tournament was held in 1998. It was also the last football tournament at the Goodwill Games, as the sport was dropped in 2001. All matches were played at the Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, New York, United States. The United States won the tournament, winning 2–0 against China PR in the gold medal match. Uniondale is a census-designated place (CDP), as well as a suburb in Nassau County, New York, Nassau County, New York (state), New York, on Long Island, in the Town of Hempstead, New York, Town of Hempstead. Gøril Kringen
Gøril Kringen (born 28 January 1972) is a Norwegian former football player and coach, who has also worked as the Football Association of Norway's (NFF) head of women's football. As a player, she was an Olympic champion with the Norway women's national football team. She played club football for Trondheims-Ørn, and holds the record for total matches played for the club (515). Playing career Playing for SK Trondheims-Ørn, Kringen won the Norwegian league seven times between 1994 and 2003. She also won the Norwegian Women's Cup eight times with Trondheims-Ørn. Kringen made her senior national team debut in July 1995—a 2–0 win over Australia—but she was not selected for Norway's victorious 1995 FIFA Women's World Cup squad. She was on the Norwegian team that hosted UEFA Women's Euro 1997 and then finished fourth at the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup in the United States. Hege Riise (born 18 July 1969) is a Norwegian football coach and former midfield player who is coaching the Norway women's national football team. One of the best footballers of her generation, she won the FIFA Women's World Cup, the Olympic Games, and the UEFA Women's Euro with the Norway women's national football team. Sun Wen (; born April 6, 1973) is a Chinese former professional footballer who played as a forward.
