The association football tournament at the 1984 Summer Olympics started on July 29 and ended on August 11. It was the first Olympic football competition in which professionals were officially allowed. Until then, the amateur-only rule had heavily favored socialist countries from the Soviet Bloc whose players were professionals in all but name. However, as agreed with FIFA to preserve the primacy of the World Cup, the Olympic competition was restricted to players with no more than five "A" caps at tournament start, regardless of age. Association football, more commonly known as football or soccer, is a team sport played between two teams of 11 players who primarily use their feet to propel the ball around a rectangular field called a pitch. Patricio Armando Toledo Toledo (born 14 July 1962) is a Chilean retired footballer who played as a goalkeeper during his career. Juvenal Olmos (born October 4, 1962) is a Chilean football manager who is current manager of Mexican club Veracruz. Olmos was born in Santiago de Chile. His management of the Chile national team was unsuccessful, as they failed to get past the first round in Copa América 2004 and he was later fired, five games before the end of the qualifying round for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Deportes Magallanes is a Chilean Football team based in San Bernardo, Chile. They will play in the Primera División de Chile starting from 2023 after winning the 2022 Primera B championship. The club was founded on October 27, 1897 with the name Atlético Escuela Normal F.C.. In 1933 they became the first national champions of Chile. Augusto Fernando Santís Ahumada (born 10 January 1958), known as Fernando Santís, is a Chilean former footballer who played as a striker. Career After playing for San Antonio Unido, Cobresal and Unión La Calera in the second level of the Chilean football, Santís joined Magallanes in the top level, moving to Spanish side UD Las Palmas in second half 1984, where he coincided with his compatriot Jorge Contreras.
