Football was contested for men only at the 1950 Central American and Caribbean Games in Guatemala City, Guatemala. The gold medal was won by Curaçao who earned 4 points in the final round. Participating teams While only the federation of Curaçao (C.V.B.) were FIFA members at the time (the Dutch Antilles federation N.A.V.U. was not founded until 1958), the team entering here was a Dutch Antilles selection representing the N.A.O.C., the olympic committee of the territory. Mario Camposeco
Mario Salvador Camposeco LĂłpez (6 August 1921 â 17 June 1951) Source: was a Guatemalan footballer. Born in Quetzaltenango, he started his football career in 1938 playing for the local team ''AmĂ©rica''. He then joined club XelajĂș becoming its captain and helping the team become champion of the Quetzaltenango department for 10 consecutive seasons (1940â1950). In 1942 he was called as a reinforcement for CSD Municipal by coach Manuel Felipe Carrera to play against Atlante F.C. of Mexico, and in 1943 he was first capped with the Guatemala national team. The Estadio Nacional Doroteo Guamuch Flores is a multi-use national stadium in Guatemala City, the largest venue in Guatemala. It was built in 1948, to host the Central American and Caribbean Games in 1950, and was renamed after long-distance runner Doroteo Guamuch Flores, winner of the 1952 Boston Marathon. It has a capacity of 26,000 seats. Used mostly for football (soccer) matches, the stadium has hosted the majority of the home matches of the Guatemala national football team throughout its history, and is the home of local football club Comunicaciones F.C. The venue is operated by the '' ConfederaciĂłn Deportiva AutĂłnoma de Guatemala'' (CDAG).
