Football Lovers' Day
Football Lovers' Day is observed in memorial to be the most tragic day in Indian football history, when 16 football fans died due to a stampede and riot inside the Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata on 16 August 1980 on the occasion of a Kolkata Derby match in the Calcutta Football League. Events leading up to the disaster The Kolkata Derby has been an eternal rivalry between the two oldest clubs in Indian football— Mohun Bagan and East Bengal—and has been featured on the list of FIFA's Classic Rivalries. Indian Standard Time (IST), sometimes also called India Standard Time, is the time zone observed throughout India, with a time offset of UTC+05:30. Prabodh Chandra Dey (May 1, 1919 − October 24, 2013), known by his stage name Manna Dey, was an internationally acclaimed and celebrated Indian playback singer, music director, and a musician. The Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (VYBK; ), commonly known as the Salt Lake Stadium, is an all-seater multi-purpose stadium located in Bidhannagar, with current capacity of 85,000 spectators. The Beautiful Game
The Beautiful Game ( pt, o jogo bonito) is a nickname for association football. It was popularised by the Brazilian footballer Pelé, although the exact origin of the phrase is disputed. Stuart Hall, an English football commentator, used it as far back as 1958. Hall admired Peter Doherty when he went to see Manchester City play at Maine Road and used the term "The Beautiful Game" to describe Doherty's style of play. During his career, the Brazilian footballer Ronaldinho was an exponent of the "Joga Bonito" ("Play Beautifully") style of play. Although made famous around the world, the phrase ''jogo bonito'' is not used in Brazil, whereas the term ''futebol-arte'' means the same. Etymology The exact origins of the term are disputed. Amal Dutta
Amal Dutta (4 May 1930 – 10 July 2016) was a former Indian footballer, coach and football manager. Born in Calcutta, then Bengal Presidency, he is considered as the first professional football coach in the country. Shyam Thapa is a retired Indian footballer who played for the India national football team and was the bronze-medallist at the Football at the 1970 Asian Games, 1970 Asian Games. Narayanswami Ulaganathan
Narayanswami Ulaganathan (born 1952) is an Indian former footballer. He played for Mohun Bagan in three spells, East Bengal, Mohammedan and the Indian national team primarily as a winger, during his 12-year career as a professional footballer. Playing for ''the Mariners'' in 1976, he became the first player to score a hat-trick in the Durand Cup final, which came against JCT Mills. Nicknamed "Black Pearl", Ulaganathan was renowned for his speed with the ball and footwork as a winger, and was considered one of India's best wingers during his time. Prasun Banerjee is an Indian former professional footballer and politician who is serving as an MP in the Lok Sabha from Howrah. He is an Arjuna Award winner (1979). Subrata Bhattacharya (footballer)
Subrata Bhattacharya is an Indian football manager and former professional footballer who played as a defender for the Indian national team and spent 17 years playing for Mohun Bagan. He was the stopper back for Mohun Bagan during 1975 IFA Shield final when East Bengal beat Mohun Bagan 5–0, the biggest ever margin in the Kolkata Derby. Pradip Kumar Banerjee
Pradip Kumar Banerjee (23 June 1936 – 20 March 2020) was an Indian professional footballer who played as a striker for the India national football team. He also captained the national team and later on became the coach of the national team. He represented India in 45 official matches and scored 15 official goals for the country. He was one of the first recipients of Arjuna Award, when the awards were instituted in 1961. He was awarded the prestigious Padma Shri in 1990 and was named Indian Footballer of the 20th century by IFFHS. In 2004, he was awarded the FIFA Order of Merit, the highest honour awarded by FIFA.
