Football League Cup Final 1993
The 1993 Football League Cup Final took place on 18 April 1993 at Wembley Stadium, and was played between Arsenal and Sheffield Wednesday. Arsenal won 2–1 in normal time, in what was the first of three Wembley finals between the two sides that season; Arsenal and Wednesday also met in the FA Cup Final of that year (which went to a replay), the first time ever in English football. The match was the first match in which any European clubs had used squad numbers and player names on their shirts. On this occasion, as in the FA Cup final and replay that year, players wore individual numbers which were retained for the FA Cup finals. Coincidentally, the first occurrence of players wearing numbered shirts came on 25 August 1928, when Arsenal and Chelsea wore numbered shirts in their matches against The Wednesday (renamed Sheffield Wednesday soon after) and Swansea Town, respectively. 1992–93 Football League Cup
The 1992–93 Football League Cup (known as the Coca-Cola Cup for sponsorship reasons) was the 33rd Football League Cup, a knockout competition for England's top 92 football clubs. The competition name reflects a sponsorship deal with soft drink brand Coca-Cola. Arsenal won the competition, beating Sheffield Wednesday 2–1 in the final. First round 56 of the First, Second and Third Division clubs compete from the First Round. Each section is divided equally into a pot of seeded clubs and a pot of unseeded clubs. Clubs' rankings depend upon their finishing position in the 1991–92 season. Reading received a bye to the second round of the competition, as they had been drawn to play Maidstone United, who resigned from the Football League on 17 August due to financial problems. Sussex County Football Association
The Sussex County Football Association, also simply known as ''Sussex County FA'' or ''Sussex FA'', is the governing body of football in the county of Sussex, England. George Graham (footballer, Born 1944)
George Graham (born 30 November 1944), nicknamed "Stroller", is a Scottish former football player and manager. In his successful playing career, he made 455 appearances in England's Football League as a midfielder or forward for Aston Villa, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, Portsmouth and Crystal Palace. Approximately half of his total appearances were for Arsenal, and he was part of the side that won the Football League Championship and FA Cup "double" in 1971. Graham also made 17 appearances for California Surf in the NASL in 1978. He then moved to the coaching staff at Crystal Palace, before joining former Palace manager Terry Venables as a coach at Queens Park Rangers. Alan Smith (footballer, Born 1962)
Alan Martin Smith (born 21 November 1962) is an English former professional footballer who played as a striker. He is a co-commentator, and sometimes studio pundit for Sky Sports. Playing career Leicester City Smith started his career at non-league Alvechurch in north-east Worcestershire. He then signed professional forms with Leicester City in June 1982. In his first season, he scored 13 goals in partnership with Gary Lineker, as the Foxes won promotion to the First Division. He spent five seasons at Leicester, scoring 84 goals in 217 appearances. Ian Selley
Ian Selley (born 14 June 1974) is an English former professional footballer, and manager at Hartley Wintney. He notably played in the Premier League for Arsenal, winning the 1994 UEFA Cup Winner's Cup with them, and in the Football League for Fulham, Wimbledon and Southend United. Kevin Joseph Campbell (born 4 February 1970) is an English former professional footballer, sports television pundit and co-commentator. He was a striker, who featured in the Premier League for Arsenal, Nottingham Forest, Everton and West Bromwich Albion. Paul Vincent Davis (born 9 December 1961) is an English former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Davis was an integral part of the successful Arsenal side of the late 1980s, and early 1990s, winning the League Cup in 1987 and the First Division in 1989 and 1991. Ray Parlour
Raymond Parlour (born 7 March 1973) is an English former professional footballer and sports radio pundit for BBC Radio 5 Live and Talksport. He was a midfielder from 1992 to 2007, and spent his career playing for Arsenal, Middlesbrough and Hull City. He totalled 466 games and 32 goals for Arsenal, winning honours including three Premier League titles, four FA Cup and the 1994 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. Nigel Winterburn (born 11 December 1963) is an English former professional footballer, coach and current television personality for BT Sport. He played primarily as a left back from 1981 to 2003. Andrew Linighan (born 18 June 1962) is an English former professional footballer who played as a defender from 1980 until 2000, notably in the Premier League for Arsenal and Crystal Palace.
