The Royal Engineers Association Football Club is an association football team representing the Corps of Royal Engineers, the 'Sappers', of the British Army and based in Chatham, Kent. In the 1870s, it was one of the strongest sides in English football, winning the FA Cup in 1875 and being Cup finalists in three of the first four seasons. Herbert Smith (22 November 1877 – 6 January 1951) was an English footballer who played in the Football League for Derby County and Stoke. He also competed in the 1908 Summer Olympics, playing at left-back. Oxford City FC
Oxford City Football Club is a semi-professional English association football club based in Marston, Oxford. They currently compete in the National League South, the sixth tier of English football, and play their home matches at Marsh Lane. History The club played their first recorded match on 15 March 1884 at Thame Grammar School, losing 4–2. Clyde Purnell
Clyde Honeysett Purnell (14 May 1877 – 14 August 1934) was an English amateur footballer who competed in the 1908 Summer Olympics. Club career Purnell was born on 14 May 1877 in Ryde, Isle of Wight, the son of John and Emily Purnell. He was an avid sportsman being involved in cycling, cricket, tobogganing, and billiards. He became the captain of the Olympic Sporting Club at the age of 18 (1895). From 1897 to 1902 he was on the winning team in the Lawn Tennis Shield competition. In 1905 he picked up the runners-up medal at Shepherd's Bush in the FA Amateur Cup, but two years later he got gold with Clapton F.C., scoring once in the final in a 6–0 win over Eston United. International career Purnell played six matches and netted eight goals for the England amateur team in 1907 and 1908. Stockport County Football Club are a professional association football, football club in Stockport, England, who compete in EFL League Two, the fourth tier of the English football league system. Formed in 1883 as Heaton Norris Rovers, they were renamed Stockport County in 1890 after the County Borough of Stockport. Thomas Christopher Porter (25 October 1885 – 4 June 1915) was an English amateur footballer who played in the Football League for Stockport County and Glossop as an inside forward. He scored 7 goals in 4 appearances for England Amateurs, including two hat-tricks in a 9–0 win against Germany, which still is the team's highest defeat of its history, and against France in a 11–0 victory. He scored a further 5 goals for the Amateurs side in unofficial matches, a brace in a 5–1 win over Ireland in 1908 and yet another hat-trick in a 6–0 win over Wales in 1909, bringing his tally to 12 goals.
