Football, etc. is an American midwest emo band from Houston, Texas. History Football, etc. began in 2009 with the release of a four song EP titled ''First Down''. They signed to Count Your Lucky Stars Records in June 2009. Later the same year, Football, etc. released a split with fellow emo band Empire! Empire! (I Was a Lonely Estate). Football, etc. released their first full-length in 2011 titled ''The Draft'' on Count Your Lucky Stars and Strictly No Capital Letters. In 2013, Football, etc. released a split with the band Plaids. Also in 2013, Football, etc. released their second full-length album titled ''Audible'', on Count Your Lucky Stars and Strictly No Capital Letters. In 2015, Football, etc. released an EP titled ''Disappear'' on Count Your Lucky Stars and Strictly No Capital Letters. Midwest Emo
Midwest emo (or Midwestern emo) refers to the emo scene and/or subgenre that developed in 1990s Midwestern United States. Employing unconventional vocal stylings, distinct guitar riffs and arpeggiated melodies, Midwest emo bands shifted away from the genre's hardcore punk roots and drew on indie rock and math rock approaches. According to the author and critic Andy Greenwald, "this was the period when emo earned many, if not all, of the stereotypes that have lasted to this day: boy-driven, glasses-wearing, overly sensitive, overly brainy, chiming-guitar-driven college music."Greenwald, pp. 34–35. Midwest emo is sometimes used interchangeably with "second-wave emo". Although not implied by the name, Midwest emo does not solely refer to bands and artists from the Midwestern United States, and the style is played by outfits internationally. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Independent labels such as Flying Nun Records, Flying Nun began to promote the scene across New Zealand, inspiring key college rock bands in the United States such as Pavement (band), Pavement, Pixies (band), Pixies and R.E.M. The ''Houston Press'' is an online newspaper published in Houston, Texas, United States. It is headquartered in the Midtown area. It was also a weekly print newspaper until November 2017. The publication is supported entirely by advertising revenue and is free to readers. It reports a monthly readership of 1.6 million online users. ''Alternative Press'' is an American entertainment magazine primarily focused on music and culture, now based in Los Angeles, CA. It generally provides readers with band interviews, photos, and relevant news. It was founded in 1985 by Mike Shea in Cleveland, OH. The company is now looked after by MDDN. Beginnings The first issue of ''Alternative Press'' was distributed at concerts in Cleveland, Ohio beginning in June 1985 by ''APs founder, Mike Shea to advocate bands playing underground music. The name for the magazine, ''Alternative Press'', was not a reference to the alternative rock genre, but referred to the fanzine being an alternative to the local press.
