UKTV Food
Good Food was a cookery channel broadcasting in the United Kingdom and Ireland, latterly as part of the Discovery, Inc. network of channels. The channel originally launched on 5 November 2001 and relaunched in its final format on 22 June 2009. Good Food was available on satellite through Sky, on cable through Virgin Media, and through IPTV with TalkTalk TV, BT TV. From 2015 to 2018, Good Food was temporarily rebranded as Christmas Food during the festive season. Good Food ceased operations on 12 September 2019, with all its programmes moving to Food Network. History UKTV announced the launch of UK Food on 11 July 2001, as the first offshoot channel for UK Style, being dedicated to cookery programmes that had previously been broadcast on the increasingly crowded UK Style. UKTV Bright Ideas was a digital television channel broadcast in the United Kingdom, which was part of the UKTV family of channels. The channel broadcast a variety of programmes, often originally aired on UKTV Style, UKTV Food and UKTV Gardens, and are thus mainly cookery, DIY and gardening. History The channel was launched on 15 January 2003 as ''UK Bright Ideas'', initially for the Freeview digital terrestrial television platform, but later expanded to other platforms. Along with the rest of the UKTV network, the "UK" prefix was changed to "UKTV" on 8 March 2004 and it became ''UKTV Bright Ideas''. It timeshared with Ftn, which has since been closed down and replaced with Virgin1 on 1 October 2007. The channel was available on digital terrestrial television ( Freeview), Sky Digital and Virgin Media. In September 2007 UKTV announced that UKTV Bright Ideas, which only averaged 0.1% of the audience share, would be replaced on Freeview by Dave, as of 15 October. Dave is a British free-to-air television channel owned by UKTV, a subsidiary of BBC Studios. It broadcasts mainly comedy, with some factual programming. The channel took the name Dave on 15 October 2007, but it had been on air under various identities and formats since October 1998. History UK Gold Classics and UK Gold 2 (1998–2003) UK Gold Classics, UKTV's first digital-only channel, was launched on 2 October 1998 and was only broadcast from Friday to Sunday on Sky Digital from 6.00 pm to 2.00 am. Around this time, UK Gold began to move towards newer programmes instead of older ones; the 'classics' line-up included a number of early shows, including some black-and-white programmes, which had been acquired in the early years of the UK Gold service. Merrilees Claire Parker (born 11 August 1971 in Westminster, London) is a British celebrity chef and television presenter. She is mainly known for presenting television programmes combining food and travel (''Planet Food'' and ''Full on Food'') as well as various more traditional cookery programmes. Parker is also renowned for the menu she presented working for the pub ''The Lansdowne'' in Primrose Hill in London. Many of her recipes are freely available online. Early life Parker was already passionate about cooking as a young girl, at which time she helped her grandmother, who is half-Portuguese, in the kitchen. Stefan Gates (born 19 September 1967) is a British television presenter, author, broadcaster and live-show performer. He has written books about food, cooking and science. He has presented over 20 TV series, mostly for the BBC, including '' Cooking in the Danger Zone'' about unusual food from the world's more dangerous and difficult places. He develops half of these TV series himself, including the CBBC children's food adventure series ''Gastronuts'' and ''Incredible Edibles''. Gates presented BBC One's ''Food Factory''. He wrote and presented the BBC Two series ''E Numbers: An Edible Adventure'', ''Full On Food'' and the BBC Four series ''Feasts''. Jean-Christophe Novelli
Jean-Christophe Novelli (; born 22 February 1961) is a French celebrity chef. Early life Novelli was born in Arras, in the Pas-de-Calais department in northern France, in 1961. He left school at 14 and worked in a bakery before, at the age of 20, becoming a personal chef to the Rothschild family. Career Novelli moved to Britain in 1983, working in several establishments including the Chewton Glen Hotel in New Milton, Hampshire, later running Keith Floyd's Maltster's Arms restaurant in Totnes, Devon. He won the first of four Michelin stars as Chef Patron at Gordleton Mill in Lymington, Hampshire and was awarded Best Outstanding Dessert by Egon Ronay before becoming head chef at the Four Seasons Hotel on Hyde Park Corner, London. Olly Smith
Olly Smith (born 18 September 1974) is a British TV presenter, wine expert, columnist and author. Education and career Having discovered a love for singing at the tender age of eight, he was a chorister at King's College, Cambridge, which saw him travel far and wide to sing, including to Japan, East Berlin and Finland, and earned him a music scholarship at Charterhouse School, where he met his wife and chief of staff Sophie Smith. He gained a Master's degree in English Literature at Edinburgh University. Growing up, Smith worked in a wine shop as a cellar boy.
