FoodCorps
FoodCorps is an American non-profit organization whose mission is to work with communities to "connect kids to healthy food in school." FoodCorps places service members in limited-resource communities where they spend a year working with teachers and students to establish farm to school programs, incorporate nutrition education into school curricula, plant school gardens, and engage in other initiatives to improve school food. Like Teach for America and Habitat for Humanity, FoodCorps is a grantee of AmeriCorps. Curtis Ellis
Curtis Cleland 'Curt' Ellis (born December 15, 1979) is an American filmmaker, social entrepreneur, and advocate for sustainable agriculture and healthy food. He serves as co-founder and Executive Director of the nonprofit organization FoodCorps. He shared a Peabody Award in 2008 for ''King Corn (film), King Corn'', which he co-produced and starred in, and in 2011 he won the 17th Annual Heinz Award (with special focus on the environment) with longtime collaborator Ian Cheney for their work in the sustainable food systems, sustainable food movement. Early life Ellis was born in Lake Oswego, Oregon. Ellis' father was Barnes Ellis, an attorney and his mother was Beatrice Ellis, a teacher. Ian Cheney is an American documentary filmmaker, cinematographer, and producer. Early life and education Cheney grew up in Massachusetts and Maine, attended The Mountain School, a semester school for high school juniors, and graduated from Milton Academy in 1998. The Food Project is a non-profit organization that employs teenagers on farms in Lincoln, Roxbury and the North Shore of Massachusetts.
