''Folk beat n°1'' (1967) is the first album of Italian singer-songwriter Francesco Guccini. It was published under the name "Francesco" alone. The record is, as the title suggests, a folk album, intended to adapt the genre within a contemporary Italian context parallel to the music of Phil Ochs or Bob Dylan. ''Folk beat n.1'' deals with various themes, including critiques and satires of Italian society, as well as tragic accounts of both fictional and historical characters (two lyrical fields which would become commonly associated with the ''cantautore''). The album itself received little recognition once released, though it is said to contain amongst Guccini's most popular songs, which would later become blueprints for his style (including his particular accent, characteristic of the Emilia-Romagna region). Francesco Guccini
Francesco Guccini (, born 14 June 1940) is an Italian singer-songwriter, considered one of the most important '' cantautori'' of his time. During the five decades of his music career he has recorded 16 studio albums and collections, and 6 live albums. He is also a writer, having published autobiographic and noir novels, and a comics writer. Guccini also worked as actor, soundtrack composer, lexicographer and dialectologist. Guccini moved to Pàvana during World War II, then returned to Modena where he spent his teenage years and established his musical career. His debut album, '' Folk beat n. 1'', was released in 1967, but the first success was in 1972 with the album '' Radici''. He was harshly criticised after releasing ''Stanze di vita quotidiana'', and answered his critics with the song "L'avvelenata". Nomadi (or I Nomadi, meaning "Nomads") is an Italian band formed in 1963 and still present on the music scene. Career Origins In 1961, Beppe Carletti and Leonardo Manfredini formed the group I Monelli (‘Urchins’). In 1962, Carletti met Franco Midilli, guitarist of the group Novellara, who joined them in Monelli. In 1963 Franco Midilli introduced Augusto Daolio to Beppe Carletti and he too joined the group. Auschwitz (song)
"Auschwitz" is a song composed by Francesco Guccini , and originally performed by Equipe 84. It was first released as the B-side of a cover of Sonny & Cher's "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)", and later included in Equipe 84's album ''Io ho in mente te''. Although the song was written by Guccini it was credited to Lunero and Maurizio Vandelli as the author at the time was not a member of the SIAE. The following year the song was later recorded by Francesco Guccini and included in his debut album '' Folk beat n. 1'', with the title "La canzone del bambino nel vento (Auschwitz)" ('The song of the child in the wind'). Guccini's authorship of the song was first acknowledged only in 1967, and officially recognized after a 30 years long trial.
