Fog (poem)
"Fog" is a poem written by Carl Sandburg. It first appeared in Sandburg's first mainstream collection of poems, ''Chicago Poems'', published in 1916. Sandburg has described the genesis of the poem. At a time when he was carrying a book of Japanese Haiku, he went to interview a juvenile court judge, and he had cut through Grant Park and saw the fog over Chicago harbor. He had certainly seen many fogs before, but this time he had to wait forty minutes for the judge, and he only had a piece of newsprint handy, so he decided to create an "American Haiku". Anthologies This poem has been frequently anthologized. Perhaps the earliest was . Reception Harriet Monroe, the editor of ''Poetry'' who first published several of the poems that went into ''Chicago Poems'', said as part of her review of that collection: Staging In 1959 and 1960, Bette Davis and her husband Gary Merrill toured the nation, putting on ''The World of Carl Sandburg'', a dramatic staged reading of selected Sandbur ...

The band has released four albums and began performing live in 2012, featuring a touring guitarist and bassist. History Initially founded as a studio project in 2000 in Kraków by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Mikołaj "M." Żentara with the collaboration of drummer Dariusz "Daren" Piper, both originally from the band Kriegsmaschine. Together, the duo recorded two unreleased demos, their first 2 EPs and a split album ''Crushing the Holy Trinity'' with the bands Deathspell Omega, Clandestine Blaze, Exordium and Musta Surma. Daren left the band in 2006 and was replaced by Maciej "Darkside" Kowalski. The band signed to Northern Heritage Records in 2008 and released their debut album ''Groza'' in that same year. Mgła has been signed to Northern Heritage ever since. In 2012, after t ...

FOG Project
The FOG Project is a software project that implements FOG (Free and Open-source Ghost), a software tool that can deploy disk images of Microsoft Windows and Linux using the Preboot Execution Environment. It makes use of TFTP, the Apache webserver and iPXE. It is written in PHP. The configuration tool developed by the FOG Project makes it possible to do remote system administration of the computers in a network. FOG depends on Partclone to copy the disk image. Gunning Fog Index
In linguistics, the Gunning fog index is a readability test for English writing. The index estimates the years of formal education a person needs to understand the text on the first reading. For instance, a fog index of 12 requires the reading level of a United States high school senior (around 18 years old). The test was developed in 1952 by Robert Gunning, an American businessman who had been involved in newspaper and textbook publishing. The fog index is commonly used to confirm that text can be read easily by the intended audience. Texts for a wide audience generally need a fog index less than 12. Texts requiring near-universal understanding generally need an index less than 8. Calculation The Gunning fog index is calculated with the following algorithm: # Select a passage (such as one or more full paragraphs) of around 100 words. Do not omit any sentences; # Determine the average sentence length. (Divide the number of words by the number of sentences.); # Count the "compl ...

Fog Computing
Fog computing or fog networking, also known as fogging, is an architecture that uses edge devices to carry out a substantial amount of computation ( edge computing), storage, and communication locally and routed over the Internet backbone. Concept In 2011, the need to extend cloud computing with fog computing emerged, in order to cope with huge number of IoT devices and big data volumes for real-time low-latency applications. Fog computing, also called edge computing, is intended for distributed computing where numerous "peripheral" devices connect to a cloud. The word "fog" refers to its cloud-like properties, but closer to the "ground", i.e. IoT devices. Many of these devices will generate voluminous raw data (e.g., from sensors), and rather than forward all this data to cloud-based servers to be processed, the idea behind fog computing is to do as much processing as possible using computing units co-located with the data-generating devices, so that processed rather than raw da ...

Fibre Optic Gyroscope
A fibre-optic gyroscope (FOG) senses changes in orientation using the Sagnac effect, thus performing the function of a mechanical gyroscope. However its principle of operation is instead based on the interference of light which has passed through a coil of optical fibre, which can be as long as . Operation Two beams from a laser are injected into the same fibre but in opposite directions. Due to the Sagnac effect, the beam travelling against the rotation experiences a slightly shorter path delay than the other beam. The resulting differential phase shift is measured through interferometry, thus translating one component of the angular velocity into a shift of the interference pattern which is measured photometrically. Beam splitting optics split light from a laser diode (or other laser light source) into two waves propagating in both clockwise and anticlockwise directions through a coil consisting of many turns of optical fibre. The strength of the Sagnac effect is dependent ...

Distance Fog
Distance fog is a technique used in 3D computer graphics to enhance the perception of distance by shading distant objects differently. Because many of the shapes in graphical environments are relatively simple, and complex shadows are difficult to render, many graphics engines employ a "fog" gradient so objects further from the camera are progressively more obscured by haze and by aerial perspective. This technique simulates the effect of light scattering, which causes more distant objects to appear lower in contrast, especially in outdoor environments. Visibility in a natural haze declines exponentially, not linearly, with distance due to scattering. The colour of the light being scattered into the viewing path affects the colour of the haze; blue under blue skies, reddish near sunset, as with alpenglow. These more subtle details are represented in some graphics. "Fogging" is another use of distance fog in mid-to-late 1990s games, when processing power was not enough to r ...

Grease Trap
A grease trap (also known as grease interceptor, grease recovery device, grease capsule and grease converter) is a plumbing device (a type of trap) designed to intercept most greases and solids before they enter a wastewater disposal system. Common wastewater contains small amounts of oils which enter into septic tanks and treatment facilities to form a floating scum layer. This scum layer is very slowly digested and broken down by microorganisms in the anaerobic digestion process. Large amounts of oil from food preparation in restaurants can overwhelm a septic tank or treatment facility, causing the release of untreated sewage into the environment. High-viscosity fats and cooking grease such as lard solidify when cooled, and can combine with other disposed solids to block drain pipes. Grease traps have been used since Victorian days: Nathaniel Whiting obtained the first patent in the late 1800s. The traps reduce the amount of fats, oils, greases, and solids (FOGS) that enter ...
