Flying Dream 1
''Flying Dream 1'' is the ninth studio album by British alternative rock band Elbow. It was released on 19 November 2021, through Polydor Records. Composition and recording ''Flying Dream 1'' was written remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic, with each band member composing music at their homes in Manchester and London and exchanging their ideas online with the other members. The songs were then completed and recorded at the Theatre Royal in Brighton while it was still closed and empty, as a result of the pandemic. Singer Guy Garvey stated that the writing of ''Flying Dreams 1'' had been influenced by "patient, quiet, whole albums" by artists such as Chet Baker, Van Morrison, John Martyn, Kate Bush, PJ Harvey, Talk Talk and the Blue Nile. Critical reception ''Flying Dream 1'' received positive reviews from critics, with many noting that the album's focus on quieter songs, compared with previous albums. Elbow (band)
Elbow are an English rock band formed in Bury, Greater Manchester, in 1997. The band consists of Guy Garvey (lead vocals, guitar), Craig Potter (keyboard, piano, backing vocals), Mark Potter (guitar, backing vocals) and Pete Turner (bass guitar, backing vocals). They have played together since 1990, adopting the name Elbow in 1997. Drummer Alex Reeves replaced Richard Jupp in 2016. Jesca Hoop
Jessica "Jesca" Ada Hoop (born April 21, 1975) is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist, who writes and performs in diverse musical styles. She has released six studio albums of her own, as well as live, acoustic and dual albums with others. Biography Early life Hoop was born in Santa Rosa, California, to traditional Mormon parents Janette and Jack Dennis Hoop. She grew up singing hymns and folk tunes with her family in four-part harmony. At age 14, her parents separated, and two years later she broke away from her Mormon religion. "Grounds for Divorce" is the first single from Elbow's fourth studio album ''The Seldom Seen Kid''. Song The song opens with the line: Uncut magazine said it was "surely one of the best opening lines of any pop song in years" and NME compared it to something James Bond might say "this is kind of glorious one-liner he’d mutter before taking the bad guys down and then smooching a lofty Eastern European countess." ''Laughing Stock'' is the fifth and final studio album by English band Talk Talk, released in 1991. Following their previous release ''Spirit of Eden'' (1988), bassist Paul Webb left the group, which reduced Talk Talk to the duo of singer/multi-instrumentalist Mark Hollis and drummer Lee Harris. Talk Talk then acrimoniously left EMI and signed to Polydor who released the album on their newly revitalised jazz-based Verve Records label. ''Laughing Stock'' was recorded at London's Wessex Sound Studios from September 1990 to April 1991 with producer Tim Friese-Greene and engineer Phill Brown.
