Fly (artist)
Elen Orr, known as Fly, is a comic book artist, illustrator, activist, and teacher whose art has been published in various magazines and fanzines, including ''Slug and Lettuce'', ''Maximum Rock 'N' Roll'', ''World War 3 Illustrated'', and The Village Voice, among others. She is also a former member of New York queercore punk band God Is My Co-Pilot. Fly came to work in New York in the late 1980s, and got involved with ABC No Rio, a social center for punks and artists located at 156 Rivington street in New York City's Lower East Side. She is a member of the World War 3 Illustrated collective, and a contributor to the anthology '' Juicy Mother 2'', edited by Jennifer Camper, which was published by Manic D Press in 2007. In 2003, Fly exhibited her art at the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco, California. She has also produced cover artwork for Hungry March Band, Adeline Records and Geykido Comet Records. God Is My Co-Pilot (band)
God Is My Co-Pilot (often abbreviated as GodCo) is a no wave queercore band from New York City formed in 1991. The two primary members throughout the 90s were the openly queer couple of vocalist Sharon Topper and guitarist Craig Flanagin. The last recordings with Topper were made in 1998 (though the group continued to perform occasionally until 2012). There was no further activity until 2018 when the band released a demo on both cassette and Bandcamp, began playing frequent shows in NYC, and toured the UK. The current line-up consists of Flanagin playing guitar, Normandy Sherwood (of the National Theater of the United States of America) on vocals & electronics, long-standing members Jason Blackkat on bass, Jer Reid on guitar, and Fredrik Haake on drums, with new members Hajnal Pivnick on violin, and Kevin Shea on drums. Elizabeth Merrick
Elizabeth Merrick (born 1970) is an American author, best known as the founder and director of the ''Grace Reading Series'' and as editor of the Random House anthology ''This is not chick lit''. Merrick received a BA from Yale University, an MFA from Cornell University, and an MA in Creativity and Art Education from San Francisco State University. She has taught at New York University and Cornell and has received fellowships from the Saltonstall Foundation, the Ragdale Foundation, and VCCA. Merrick is also responsible for the independent publishing house Demimonde Books, which published ''Girly'', Merrick's first novel, released in December 2005. Counterpoint LLC was a publishing company distributed by Perseus Books Group launched in 2007. It was formed from the consolidation of three presses: Perseus' Counterpoint Press, Avalon Publishing Group's Shoemaker & Hoard and the independent Soft Skull Press. The company published books under the Counterpoint Press and Soft Skull Press imprints. Counterpoint also entered into an agreement for the production, marketing and distribution of approximately eight Sierra Club book titles each year. Adeline Records
Adeline Records was an American record label that was formed in Oakland, California in late 1997 and closed in August 2017. History In 1997, Adeline Records was founded by Billie Joe Armstrong, lead singer of Green Day, Screw 32's Doug Sangalang, Green Day guitarist Jason White, and professional skateboarder Jim Thiebaud. It was named after a street (Adeline Street) that runs from The Port of Oakland through West Oakland and Emeryville, terminating at Ward St and Shattuck Ave in Berkeley. Green Day's management company, Pat Magnarella Management, took over ownership of the label and ran it from the company's office in San Diego for many years. The label was closed in 2017. In July 2017, Pat Magnarella split from Green Day having managed them for over 21 years. Shortly thereafter Adeline Records abruptly closed down. The Hungry March Band is an American brass band with approximately 15-20 active musicians and performers. In performance, the group's size can vary from five to fifty: from a quintet to a large corps of musicians, dancers, baton twirlers, and hula hoopers. HMB has a repertoire of originals and traditionals that borrows from global brass band traditions, including Balkan Gypsy music, Indian wedding bands, and New Orleans second line. The Cartoon Art Museum (CAM) is a California art museum that specializes in the art of comics and cartoons. It is the only museum in the Western United States dedicated to the preservation and exhibition of all forms of cartoon art.
