Aeropelican Air Services Pty Ltd was a regional airline based in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. Its main base was Newcastle Airport, with a hub at Sydney Airport. History The airline was established on 23 October 1968 and started operations on 1 July 1971 with a Cessna 402. It originally was owned by the Newcastle-based Hilder family, however in 1980 the airline was sold to Masling Airlines, a company associated with the now-defunct Ansett Australia. It operated services for Ansett Australia and later became a wholly owned subsidiary. Mudgee Airport is an airport located north northeast of Mudgee, New South Wales, Australia. The airport is frequently used for technical training. History In 1921 there was activity on the need for an aerodrome at Mudgee, with a proposal for privately owned air strip to be prepared near the town. From as early as 1933 there was agitation for a licensed public aerodrome for Mudgee. The Mudgee Racecourse was used as a landing ground when the first passenger air service from Mudgee to Sydney commenced 3 August 1937 by Southern Airlines and Freighters Limited. Mudgee was the first stop on a service that proceeded to Dubbo, Narromine, Nyngan, Cobar, Wilcannia, then turned around at Broken Hill for the return trip. Dubbo City Regional Airport is a regional airport in Dubbo, Australia. The airport is located northwest of Dubbo and is operated by the Dubbo City Council. It is also known as Dubbo Airport or Dubbo City Airport. History Aeroplanes began landing in Dubbo in the 1920s, though it wasn't until 1935 that land was purchased for an official airport. During World War II, the airport was reconstructed to be a military airport. The airport runway was redone by the Department of Civil Aviation in 1969, and a terminal was opened in 1970. Ballina Byron Gateway Airport is a small regional airport located at Ballina, New South Wales, Australia. It is owned and operated by Ballina Shire Council. It serves Ballina and the nearby town of Byron Bay, a 20-minute drive north. Ballina Airport handled 365,200 passengers in the 2012/13 financial year. It is from the Ballina CBD, in Southern Cross Drive. An occasional bus service operates to and from the airport, except on Christmas Day. In 2005 Ballina Airport was renamed Ballina Byron Gateway Airport in a bid to attract more people to the area. A master plan for an upgrade and expansion of the terminal has been drawn up and may be constructed with a new glass facade facing the apron and runway as well as a new drop-off/pick-up area and multiple interior changes. Bathurst Airport is an airport serving Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia. Located in the Central Tablelands, Bathurst Airport is served by one airline, FlyPelican. The airport's history dates to just prior the Second World War when local politicians campaigned for an airport for Bathurst. The war prompted the Federal Government to establish the aerodrome during the war years, immediately following the war commercial air services commenced with passenger flights to Sydney. Today several flying schools operate at the airport and it is used frequently by trainee pilots during their navigation training.
