Fluminense Football Club (), known as Fluminense, is a Brazilian sports club best known for its professional football team that competes in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, the first tier of Brazilian football and the Campeonato Carioca, the state league of Rio de Janeiro. The club is based in the neighbourhood of Laranjeiras since its foundation, in 1902. Fluminense is the oldest football club of Rio de Janeiro. The club was founded on 21 July 1902 and Oscar Cox was its first elected president. The Campeonato Carioca (Carioca Championship), officially known as Campeonato Estadual do Rio de Janeiro (Port., Rio de Janeiro State Championship), was started in 1906 and is the annual football championship in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is under the authority of the FERJ or FFERJ (Football Federation of the State of Rio de Janeiro). The first season of the ''Campeonato Carioca'' was played in 1906. The 2022 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A (officially the Brasileirão Assaí 2022 for sponsorship reasons) was the 66th season of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, the top level of professional football in Brazil, and the 19th edition in a double round-robin since its establishment in 2003. The competition began on 9 April and ended on 13 November 2022. The top six teams as well as the 2022 Copa do Brasil champions qualified for the Copa Libertadores. The 2022 Campeonato Carioca de Futebol (officially the Cariocão Betfair 2022 for sponsorship reasons) was the 119th edition of the top division of football in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The competition was organized by FERJ. It began on 25 January 2022 and ended on 2 April 2022. Fluminense defeated the defending champions Flamengo on aggregate 3–1 to win their 32nd title. The 2008 Copa Libertadores de América was the 49th edition of the Copa Libertadores, CONMEBOL's premier annual international club tournament. This marked the first year the competition was sponsored by Spanish bank Santander. As such, the competition is officially the 2008 Copa Santander Libertadores de América for sponsorship reasons. The 2009 Copa Sudamericana de Clubes (officially the 2009 Copa Nissan Sudamericana de Clubes for sponsorship reasons) is the 8th edition of the CONMEBOL's secondary international club tournament. Internacional were the defending champions, having won the trophy the previous season. Ecuadorian side LDU Quito won the 2009 tournament, becoming the first Ecuadorian winners of the trophy. From this edition onward, CONCACAF teams, which have participated in the tournament since 2005, will no longer be participating because of the format change in the CONCACAF Champions League, which conflicted with scheduling. Fernando Diniz Silva (born 27 March 1974), known as Fernando Diniz, is a Brazilian professional football coach and former player who played as a midfielder. He is the current head coach of Fluminense. Diniz is well known for his style of play and involving ball possession. For this reason, he is known to be the manager who consolidated the ''Tiki-taka'' style in Brazil, which earned him the nickname of "Brazilian Guardiola"''. Playing career Born in Patos de Minas, Minas Gerais, Diniz started his career with Juventus-SP in 1993. In 1996 he moved to Guarani, but agreed to a contract with Palmeiras shortly after.
