Flower Of Night
''Flower of Night'' is a 1925 American silent drama film directed by Paul Bern. Famous Players-Lasky produced the film with Paramount Pictures releasing. Joseph Hergesheimer provided an original story for the screen. Plot As described in a film magazine review, Don Giraldo y Villalon and his daughter Carlota, high caste Spaniards living in California at the time of the gold rush, are dispossessed of most of their land holdings, including the Flor de Noche mine in the hills above their hacienda. John Basset has come from the East to assist the superintendent of the mine. He stops at the hacienda to learn the way to the mine, and, at sight of him, Carlota loves him. She accepts an invitation to a miners’ dance, to which she goes only that she may see Basset again. Basset, disgusted with the revel, ignores her. Paul Bern
Paul Bern (born Paul Levy; December 3, 1889September 5, 1932) was a German-born American film director, screenwriter, and producer for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, where he became the assistant to Irving Thalberg. He helped launch the career of Jean Harlow, whom he married in July 1932; two months later, he was found dead of a gunshot wound, leaving what appeared to be a suicide note. Various alternative theories of his death have been proposed. MGM writer and film producer Samuel Marx believed that he was killed by his Common-law marriage in the United States, ex-common-law wife Dorothy Millette, who jumped to her death from a ferry days afterward. Eulalie Jensen
Eulalie Jensen (December 24, 1884 – October 7, 1952) was an American actress on the New York stage and in silent films. Biography Born in St. Louis, Missouri, she was selected as one of six extra girls from the 200 applicants responding to a New York newspaper ad inserted by Sarah Bernhardt. The famed actress was making a visit to New York City. At this time, Miss Jensen was completely unknown, but this was the beginning of her film career. A number of years of stage experience enabled Jensen to become a fine ''emotional actress''. Her stage engagements included a role in ''The Million'' at the 39th St. Theatre. This was a four-act farce by M. M. Ber and Guille Ward. The show was also featured in New Haven, Connecticut at the Hyperion Theatre. Both productions were in 1911. A lost film is a feature or short film that no longer exists in any studio archive, private collection, public archive or the U.S. Library of Congress. Conditions During most of the 20th century, U.S. copyright law required at least one copy of every American film to be deposited at the Library of Congress at the time of copyright registration, but the Librarian of Congress was not required to retain those copies: "Under the provisions of the act of March 4, 1909, authority is granted for the return to the claimant of copyright of such copyright deposits as are not required by the Library."
