Florsheim Shoe
Florsheim Shoes is a shoe brand in the United States. History Florsheim & Co. was founded in 1892 by Milton S. Florsheim. He and his father Sigmund Florsheim made the first shoes in Chicago. Eventually, some stores were owned by and selling only Florsheim. By 1930, Florsheim was making women's shoes and had five Chicago factories and 2500 employees, with 71 stores partly or entirely company-owned and 9000 stores around the US selling Florsheims. Milton Florsheim died and was succeeded by his son Irving in 1936. His younger son Harold became president in 1946 as the elder brother became chairman. In 1953, Furniture Brands International, International Shoe Company, the world's largest shoe maker, bought Florsheim for $21 million. Florsheim Shoe Company Building
The Florsheim Shoe Company Building is a former factory for the Florsheim Shoe Company and a Chicago Landmark in the Avondale neighborhood. The building was built between 1924 and 1926 when the Florsheim Shoe Company had "2,500 employees, 71 retail outlets, 9,000 dealers and a network of regional wholesale distributors". The architect of the building was Alfred S. Alschuler, who designed numerous Chicago Landmarks and buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. The building was a factory for Florsheim until 1986, when it became the warehouse for a records management. The building, located on the 3900 block of West Belmont Avenue, is now luxury lofts. Middletown is a city located in Middlesex County, Connecticut, United States, Located along the Connecticut River, in the central part of the state, it is south of Hartford, Connecticut, Hartford.
