Route description SR 552's western terminus is at SR 15 in Orlando and its eastern terminus is at SR 551 near Azalea Park. History SR 552 was originally SR 526A; it was renumbered in the mid-1980s. SR 526A at one time stretched west to Briercliff Drive; this had been part of SR 15 even earlier. Curry Ford Road east of Goldenrod Road was once part of SR 425, but was probably never part of SR 526A. Azalea Park is a census-designated place and an unincorporated area in Orange County, Florida, United States. The population was 12,556 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. Geography Azalea Park is located at (28.541546, -81.296372). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 8.4 km2 (3.2 mi2), of which 8.3 km2 (3.2 mi2) is land and 0.1 km2 (0.04 mi2) (0.93%) is water. State Road 15 (SR 15) is part of the Florida State Road System. This route is part of a multi two-state route 15 that begins at Florida and ends at Georgia at the North Carolina state line. Route description SR 15 runs from SR 80/ SR 880 at Belle Glade north along the east shore of Lake Okeechobee to Okeechobee. Then it runs north to SR 500 (US 192) at Holopaw, and northwest along SR 500 to Ashton (east of St. Cloud), where it ends. County Road 15 in Osceola County and Orange County connects to the beginning of the next section, at SR 528 (the Bee Line Expressway) east of Orlando International Airport. State Road 551 (Florida)
State Road 551 (SR 551), locally known as Goldenrod Road and Palmetto Avenue, forms a north–south surface street bypass of Orlando to the east. A Central Florida Expressway Authority project known as Goldenrod Road Extension connects to SR 551 just north of SR 15 and extends it south to SR 528 (Beachline Expressway). South of this interchange, the road becomes known as Heintzelman Boulevard and ends south of Orlando International Airport. While SR 551 is maintained by the Florida Department of Transportation, the southern extension is a toll road owned and operated by the Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX). The State Highway System of the U.S. state of Florida comprises the roads maintained by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) or a toll authority. The components are referred to officially as state roads, abbreviated as SR. History Prior to the 1945 renumbering, State Roads were given numbers in the order they were added to the system. The 1945 renumbering removed many roads that were never built and added some that had not existed prior to 1945. In 1955, the State Road Department (SRD) slowed the addition of new state roads and began to classify roads into primary, secondary, and local roads. Primary roads would continue to be state-maintained, while secondary roads would have an S before the number, and would only be state-maintained during a construction project.
