State Road 166 (SR 166) is a long state road in Jackson County, Florida, running from US 90/ SR 73 in Marianna, Florida to SR 71. The road is almost entirely two lanes wide, except in portions where third center left turn lanes appear. Despite ending in an even number, the road runs mostly north and south in and north of Marianna, Florida. While most of the road is signed as a north-south road, the northernmost portion is signed as an east-west road. Route description State Road 166 begins as Jefferson Street at the southeastern terminus of the US 90/ SR 73 concurrency, taking a secret concurrency with County Road 167 from SR 73. Two blocks north at Clinton Street the road runs between the city fire department and the First Presbyterian Church. At Davis Street, the route leaves the Marianna Historic District. Marianna, Florida
Marianna is a city in and the county seat of Jackson County, Florida, United States, and it is home to Chipola College. The population was 6,102 at the 2010 census. In 2018 the estimated population was 7,091. The official nickname of Marianna is "The City of Southern Charm". History Marianna was founded in 1828 by Scottish entrepreneur Scott Beverege, who named the town after his daughters Mary and Anna. The following year, it was designated as the county seat, superseding the earlier settlement of Webbville, which soon after dissolved and no longer exists. Jackson County is a county located in the U.S. state of Florida, on its northwestern border with Alabama. As of the 2020 census, the population was 47,319. Its county seat is Marianna. History Jackson County was created by the Florida Territorial Council in 1822 out of Escambia County, at the same time that Duval County was organized from land of St. Johns County, making them the third and fourth counties in the Territory. The county was named for Andrew Jackson, a General of the War of 1812, who had served as Florida's first military governor for six months in 1821. State Road 73 (SR 73) is a state highway in northwest Florida that runs through Calhoun and Jackson Counties, although it runs through more of the former county than the latter one. The road is always on the west side of the Chipola River, and is almost entirely two-lanes wide, except with its concurrency with US 90 in Marianna where it is four-lanes wide. Route description Calhoun County State Road 73 begins at State Road 71 in Chipola Park, near Kinard. It runs west from SR 71 almost without any acknowledgement, then shortly turns northwest before the intersection with County Road 73A. In Kinard itself, the road takes a sharp turn more toward the north, and crosses a bridge over Cypress Creek before approaching a blinker-light intersection with CR 392. State Road 71 (SR 71) is a highway in western Florida that runs from the Gulf Coast and the Gulf of Mexico, through the panhandle of Florida to the Alabama border. Route description Gulf County Starting at US 98 across from the intersection of Fifth Street in Port St. Joe as a four-lane divided highway named Cecil G. Costin Senior Boulevard, the road is within viewing distance of the Gulf of Mexico, where it runs east and west rather than the signed north and south route that it is. History The school was founded in 1947 as Chipola Junior College; its name was changed in 2003 after the college developed several bachelor's degree programs.
