Florida's 5th House Of Representatives District
Florida's 5th House District elects one member of the Florida House of Representatives. The district is represented by Shane Abbott. This district is located in the Florida Panhandle, and encompasses part of the Emerald Coast. The district covers all of Walton County, Holmes County, Washington County, Jackson County, and part of northern Bay County. The largest city in the district is Marianna. As of the 2010 Census, the district's population is 159,198. This district contains Chipola College, located in Marianna, and the Baptist College of Florida, located in Graceville. Shane Abbott
Shane Abbott is an American politician. He serves as a Republican member for the 5th district of the Florida House of Representatives. Life and career Abbott was raised in DeFuniak Springs, Florida. He attended Pensacola Junior College and the University of Florida, where he earned a bachelor's degree in pharmacy. He co-owns The Prescription Place, which has two locations, as well as a Firestone Tire Service Center. In January 2022, Abbott decided to collect signatures to qualify as a candidate for the 5th district of the Florida House of Representatives. On August 23, 2022, Abbott defeated Vance Coley and Clint Pate in the Republican primary election. No Democratic candidate was nominated to challenge him in the general election. Marti Coley
Marti Coley (born March 15, 1961) is a former Republican member of the Florida House of Representatives, representing the 5th District, which includes Holmes County, Jackson County, Walton County, Washington County, and northern Bay County, since 2012, previously representing the 7th District from 2005 to 2012. History Coley was born in Blountstown, and attended Chipola College and Florida State University, where she graduated with a degree in English education in 1984. After graduation, she began teaching in Thomasville, Georgia, but moved with her husband to Marianna in 1985. Coley then began teaching at Malone High School, where she worked until 1989, at which point she joined the faculty of Chipola College. Durell Peaden Jr. (August 24, 1945 – June 23, 2015) was a Republican member of the Florida Senate, representing the 2nd District since November 5, 2002. He left office at the end of November 2, 2010 due to term limits. Previously he was a member of the Florida House of Representatives's 5th district from November 8, 1994, through November 7, 2000. He switched from the Democratic party to the Republican party in June 1997. Vernon, Florida
Vernon is a city in Washington County, Florida. The population was 687 at the 2010 census; according to the U.S. Census Bureau's 2018 estimates, the city had a population of 690. Vernon is named for George Washington's Virginia home, Mount Vernon. The pioneer town was the site of a major Indian settlement.
