Florence MacMichael
Florence MacMichael (April 26, 1919 – May 28, 1999) was an American character actress of stage, film and television, best known for playing Winnie Kirkwood in the television series ''Mister Ed''. Early life and education MacMichael was born in Hagerstown, Maryland, to Mary ( née Wahl) and Roy A. MacMichael. She studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. Career MacMichael started out on local radio, local theater and Broadway shows. A major role in the Broadway play ''Out of the Frying Pan'' led to her first film role in its 1943 adaptation, ''Young and Willing''. Her later film credits include '' Woman Obsessed'' (1959), ''The Horse in the Gray Flannel Suit'' (1968) and ''Welcome Home, Soldier Boys'' (1972). On television she played Florence Pearson in ''My Three Sons'' (1960–61), Winnie Kirkwood in ''Mister Ed'' (1963–65) and Barney Fife's girlfriend in two episodes of ''The Andy Griffith Show''. ''Mister Ed'' is an American television sitcom produced by Filmways that aired in syndication from January 5 to July 2, 1961, and then on CBS from October 1, 1961, to February 6, 1966. The show's title character is a talking horse which originally appeared in short stories by Walter R. Brooks. ''Mister Ed'' is one of the few series to debut in syndication and be picked up by a major network for prime time. All 143 episodes were filmed in black and white. Beginnings The ''Mister Ed'' show concept was derived from a series of short stories by children's author Walter R. Brooks which began with ''The Talking Horse'' in the September 18, 1937, issue of ''Liberty'' magazine. Brooks is best known for the ''Freddy the Pig'' series of children's novels which feature talking animals that interact with humans. Cambria () is a seaside village in San Luis Obispo County, California, United States midway between San Francisco and Los Angeles along California State Route 1 (Highway 1). The name Cambria, chosen in 1869, is the Latin name for Wales. Cambria is situated amidst Monterey pines in one of only three such native forests. The Hotel Carver
The Hotel Carver is a three-story Victorian Building with full basement at 107 S. Fair Oaks Avenue in Pasadena, California. It was built in the late 1880s as part of the Doty Block in the Old Pasadena district. According to sources at the Pasadena Museum of History, it originally was a showroom for a stage coach or carriage company. In later years it was a freight depot for the Pasadena and Los Angeles Railroad, which became part of the Pacific Electric Railway, and which is indicated by the faded "Pasadena and Los Angeles" sign on the South wall. In the early 1900s the building was converted to the Hotel Mikado and served the Japanese American community. The 686-seat auditorium produces a variety of cultural and artistic events, professional shows, and community engagements each year.
