Fleur Marshall
Surgeon Commodore Fleur T. Marshall is a general practitioner and senior Royal Navy officer. Since 2021, she has served as Head of the Royal Navy Medical Service and Medical Director General (Naval). Military career Educated at Repton School and Bristol University, Marshall joined the Royal Navy in 1992. She became a Regional Clinical Director in 2013, Medical Officer in Charge of the Institute of Naval Medicine in 2016 and Head of Future Healthcare in 2019. The Royal Navy (RN) is the United Kingdom's naval warfare force. Although warships were used by English and Scottish kings from the early medieval period, the first major maritime engagements were fought in the Hundred Years' War against France. Commodore (Royal Navy)
Commodore (Cdre) is a rank of the Royal Navy above captain and below rear admiral. It has a NATO ranking code of OF-6. The rank is equivalent to brigadier in the British Army and Royal Marines and to air commodore in the Royal Air Force. Commodore has only been a substantive rank in the Royal Navy since 1997. Until then the term denoted a functional position rather than a formal rank, being the title bestowed on the senior officer of a fleet of at least two naval vessels comprising an independent (usually ad hoc and short-term) command. The Royal Navy Medical Service is the branch of the Royal Navy responsible for medical care. It works closely with Queen Alexandra's Royal Naval Nursing Service. History The history of the service can be traced back to 1692 when treatment for sick and wounded naval personnel was administered by the Sick and Hurt Commissioners, Commissioners of the Sick and Hurt Board (a subsidiary body of the Navy Board) until 1806, when medical officers of the Royal Navy had been under the direction of the Transport Board. Institute Of Naval Medicine
The Institute of Naval Medicine is the main research centre and training facility of the Royal Navy Medical Service. History The site was established in 1969 to research environmental health conditions for submariners in the Royal Navy. At a safety conference on Saturday 25 March 1972 at the University of Birmingham, organised by the National Council of British Mountaineering, with around five hundred climbing experts present, Surgeon Commander Duncan Walters (August 1927 - August 2021) showed a film entitled ''Give Him Air'', about a swimmer in Malta that was accidentally speared in the lung by a harpoon gun. Inga Kennedy
Commodore Inga Jane Kennedy, (born 7 September 1962) is a Scottish nurse and senior Royal Navy officer. Seemingly from 2017–2019, she served as Head of the Royal Navy Medical Service and Medical Director General (Naval). She is currently the most senior female officer in the Royal Navy by year of promotion. She previously served as Matron-in-Chief of the Queen Alexandra's Royal Naval Nursing Service (2011–2015) and Inspector General of the Defence Medical Services (2015–2017). Early life and education Kennedy was born on 7 September 1962 in Aberdeen, Scotland to Rhoda and Richard Kennedy. She studied nursing at Queen Margaret College, Edinburgh, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree. She also studied for a postgraduate diploma at the University of Greenwich.
