Andy Flett
Ooberman are an English band with strong indie, folk and progressive influences first formed in 1997. They split up in 2003, shortly after the release of their second album '' Hey Petrunko'', but announced their reformation in April 2006 and began releasing music again soon thereafter. History Early years Ooberman founders Dan Popplewell and Andy Flett met over a piano at their school in Bradford, 1988. The first band they set up was The Forestry Commission, with Flett's younger brother, Steve on bass guitar. The band's life soon ended when Popplewell moved to Liverpool, but the three friends kept in touch. Steve Flett moved to Liverpool in 1992, and Andy Flett later joined him in 1996/7, after commuting back and forth from Birmingham where he was studying. Bill Flett
William Mayer Flett (July 21, 1943 – July 12, 1999) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who played in the National Hockey League for the Los Angeles Kings, Philadelphia Flyers, Toronto Maple Leafs and Atlanta Flames. Flett then moved to the World Hockey Association, playing with the Edmonton Oilers, returning to the NHL with the Oilers in the 1979–80 NHL season. Playing career Born in Vermilion, Alberta, Flett played his minor hockey in Okotoks, Alberta, then played junior hockey with the Melville Millionaires of the SJHL. From 1963–64 through 1966–67, he played for teams in various minor professional leagues ( AHL, EHL, WHL, CPHL). In 1967, when the NHL expanded from six to twelve teams, Flett was drafted by the expansion Los Angeles Kings. Dave Flett
David Flett (born, 2 June 1951) is a Scottish rock guitarist, best known for performing with Manfred Mann's Earth Band and Thin Lizzy. Career Early years and Manfred Mann Flett began his career with local groups in Aberdeen such as Cat Squirrel, Once Upon a Band and Pinto. He later moved to London and joined an all-Aberdeen group called Jock. While he was living in London, he was recommended to Manfred Mann and subsequently joined Manfred Mann's Earth Band, with whom he made his debut on their 1975 autumn tour of America. He performed on two Earth Band studio albums, ''The Roaring Silence'' and ''Watch'', which featured two hit singles in "Blinded by the Light" and "Davy's on the Road Again" respectively. George Flett
George Flett (10 February 1817 – 28 October 1897) was a Presbyterian missionary in what is now Manitoba, Canada. Flett was of Orkney and Cree descent. As a young man he farmed on the White Horse Plains, led a gold exploration party to Edmonton and then became the first post master for the Hudson's Bay Company at Fort Victoria, Alberta. Flett was an interpreter to the first Presbyterian mission to the northwest between 1866 and 1867. After serving as a delegate in the provisional government of Louis Riel during the Red River Rebellion, he became a missionary among the Ojibwa of Okanese Reserve, serving from 1873 to 1895. Sir John Smith Flett (26 June 1869 – 26 January 1947) was a Scottish physician and geologist. Early life Born in Kirkwall, Orkney, the son of James Ferguson Flett, a merchant and baillie, and Mary Ann (née Copland). He was educated at Kirkwall Burgh School, George Watson's College in Edinburgh, and the University of Edinburgh ( MA; BSc 1892; MB CM 1894; DSc 1900; LLD 1912). Flett worked as a general practitioner for a short while after graduation, but in 1895 turned to geology for a career. He served as lecturer in Petrology at the University of Edinburgh, and as Petrographer (1901), Assistant Director (1911) and Director (1920–3) of the Geological Survey of Great Britain. Thomas Muirhead Flett (28 July 1923 – 13 February 1976) was an English mathematician at Sheffield University working on analysis. Biography Thomas Muirhead Flett was born on 28 July 1923, in London, England, when his parents moved from Scotland to London. At age 11, he won a scholarship by the County of Middlesex from a state primary school to University College School (U.C.S.), Hampstead. Career Flett was first employed as a laboratory assistant in Post Office Research Station at Dollis Hill. While working, he studied part-time at Acton Technical College and obtained first class Honours in the London University B.Sc. general Degree in Mathematics and Physics. Una Flett (1939 – 2021) was an author, journalist, travel writer, artist and in her youth, a ballerina with the Ballet des Champs Elysée, Paris. Her memoirs and novel touched on life in the 1930s to 1950s, and her play ''Zosienka'' explored the life of artist Henri Guadier-Brzeska. Life and education Born Una Leonie Russell, in Bihar, India in 1939, her father Sir Robert Russell was a Scottish advisor to the province government in the British 'Raj' at that time. Her mother, Rhona was fourteen years younger, but both her parents had a liberal attitude to arts, language and religion which influenced her life. Winona Flett
Winona Margaret Flett (June 10, 1884 – May 16, 1922) was a prominent suffragist and social reformer in Manitoba. Life Flett was born in South Dumfries Township, Ontario, the daughter of Isabella Bowie and James Flett. She left Woodstock, Ontario in 1912 for Winnipeg with her mother and sister Lynn. She worked there as a public stenographer. Flett and her sister helped found the Political Equality League (later the Manitoba Political Equality League), whose aim was to gain the vote for women in the province. She was in charge of a petition organized by this group which bore the signatures of 39,584 women.
