Flavia is a feminine given name of Latin origin. The name is most commonly used in Italy, Romania, Brazil (Portuguese: Flávia) and in Spanish-speaking countries. It is in occasional use in the United States, where 18 newborn girls were given the name in 2022. Origin Originating from the Latin word "flavus", meaning "golden" or "blonde", Flavia became an Ancient Roman ''nomen gentilicium'' for women of the gens Flavia. In modern historiography, ancient Rome refers to Roman civilisation from the founding of the city of Rome in the 8th century BC to the collapse of the Western Roman Empire in the 5th century AD. She became Italy's first top-ten female singles player on 17 August 2009 and the first Italian to be ranked world No. 1 in doubles, on 28 February 2011.
