Flatdal (lit. "Flat valley") is a village, parish and valley in the municipality of Seljord in Vestfold og Telemark, Norway. The lake Flatsjå has been partly drained to gain more land for agriculture. Seljord
Seljord is a municipality in Telemark in the county of Vestfold og Telemark in Norway. It is part of the traditional regions of Upper Telemark and Vest-Telemark. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Seljord. The parish of ''Siljord'' was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). Seljord is famous for its sea serpent, Selma, who allegedly lives in Lake Seljord (''Seljordsvatnet''). The yearly Dyrsku'n market, held since 1866, attracts 60–80,000 visitors each year. The large fair started as a show of farm animals. Today it includes a huge market with vendors selling a variety of goods including base layer clothing, Bergans outdoors equipment, crafts, and food. Amusement rides are also featured. Seljord Folkehøgskule is located in Seljord. Terje Grøstad
Terje Grøstad (16 December 1925 – 10 July 2011) was a Norwegian painter. graphic artist and illustrator. Biography He was born in Drammen in Buskerud and lived in Flatdal in Telemark from the 1950s. He attended the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry (1945) where he trained under Karl Høgberg. He was a student at the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts under Per Krohg (1947–50). He made his debut in 1948 at the Larvik Kunstforening. He painted altar pieces in churches including at Havøysund Church and Tana Church and at Brevik Church. Books illustrated by him (using woodcut technique) include ''Aust or Markom'' (1968 edition of Sven Moren's book from 1909), '' Dølen'' (1971–1972 reprint of Aasmund O. Helga Flatland ( born 16 September 1984) is a Norwegian novelist and children's writer. Making her literary debut in 2010, she eventually became a full-time writer, and has won prizes such as Tarjei Vesaas' debutantpris, Mads Wiel Nygaard's Endowment and the Norwegian Booksellers' Prize. Early and personal life Flatland was born in Notodden and grew up in Flatdal. She graduated in Scandinavian literature and language from the University of Oslo, and has also studied at Westerdals School of Communication. She worked with information advisory until she became a full-time writer. Literary career Flatland made her literary debut in 2010 with the novel ''Bli hvis du kan. Reis hvis du må'', for which she was awarded the Tarjei Vesaas' debutantpris. Vestfold Og Telemark
Vestfold og Telemark (; ) is a county under disestablishment in Norway. The county is the southernmost one of Eastern Norway and consists of two distinct and separate traditional regions: the former counties of Telemark and (most of) Vestfold. The capital is located at the town of Skien, which is also the county's largest city. While Skien is the seat of the county municipality, the seat of the County Governor is Tønsberg. It borders the counties of Viken, Vestland, Rogaland and Agder. Telemark voted against the merger, on the basis that the regions have nothing in common and do not constitute a natural geographical, cultural, social or political entity. Regardless, the Storting voted on 7 January 2018 to merge the counties by force, and the merger took effect on 1 January 2020.
