Jitterbug and foxtrot music are often included in this category. The music is primarily inspired by swing, schlager, country, jazz, and rock. The main influence for rock-oriented bands is the rock music of the 1950s and 1960s. The terms ' and ' were coined around 1970, when Swedish popular music developed a signature style. The genre developed primarily in Sweden, but has spread to neighbouring countries Norway, Denmark and the Swedish-speaking regions of Finland. Sverigetopplistan (, lit. "the Sweden top list") is the Swedish national record chart, formerly known as Topplistan (1975–1997) and Hitlistan (1998–2007) and known by its current name since October 2007, based on sales data from the Swedish Recording Industry Association (in Swedish Grammofonleverantörernas förening). Before Topplistan, music sales in Sweden were recorded by Kvällstoppen, whose weekly chart was a combined albums and singles list. "Stupid Cupid" is a song written by Howard Greenfield and Neil Sedaka which became a hit for Connie Francis in 1958. Recording history After almost three years of failure, Connie Francis finally had a hit in the spring of 1958 with a rock ballad version of the standard " Who's Sorry Now?" Unfortunately, her next pair of singles were less successful. ''I'm Sorry I Made You Cry'' only reached #36 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and ''Heartaches'' failed to chart at all. Francis recalls: "I knew I had to come up with a hit on the third record. It was crucial. I listened to every publisher's song in New York, but nothing was hitting me." Gamla kära tuffa tuff-tuff-tåget is a song written by Bert Månson, and originally recorded by Ingmar Nordströms on 1974 album ''Saxparty 1''. Its lyrics deals with memories from travelling by train in a time when steam locomotives were still around the out at the railroads. In 1975, the song was also recorded by Tre blå & en gul, Cool Candys and Flamingokvintetten on the albums '' Mera blåtiror'', '' Cool candys go'bitar 6'' and '' 6:an''. Cool Candys also released it as a 1975 single with ''Hej då ha de' så bra'' acting as a B-side. In 1976, the song was recorded by Ole dole doff on the albums '' Kavalkad 1'' and in 1978 by Sven-Eric Gissbol on the album '' Bugg shake & kramisar''. Larz-Kristerz recorded the song on the 2004 album '' Stuffparty 2''. As hidden bonus track was even a reggae version of the song. Daniele Pace
Daniele Pace (20 April 1935 – 24 October 1985) was an Italian composer, lyricist and singer-songwriter. Life and career Born in Milan, Pace started his career as lead vocalist of the group I Marcellini. After a brief solo career as a singer-songwriter, in the early 1960s he was enrolled by CGD as a composer and lyricist, often teaming with Mario Panzeri. The duo had several hits, and some of their songs were covered in other languages and became international successes. In 1971 he co-founded the comedy music group Squallor, and in 1979 he recorded a solo album, ''Vitamina C''. Pace's collaborations include Gigliola Cinquetti, France Gall, Caterina Caselli, Ricchi e Poveri, Loredana Bertè, Roberto Carlos, Orietta Berti, Mario Lavezzi, I Camaleonti, Eduardo De Crescenzo, Connie Francis and Massimo Ranieri. Mario Panzeri
Mario Panzeri (11 October 1911 – 19 May 1991) was an Italian lyricist and composer. He is well known for his composed songs that include "Maramao perché sei morto?" "Pippo non lo sa", "Lettera a Pinocchio", and "Grazie dei fior", which won the first edition of the Sanremo Music Festival in 1951. Panzeri was the composer of Sanremo Music Festival 1964 winning song "Non ho l'età ". Life and career Born in Milan, Panzeri started his career as a revue actor and singer. He began composing songs in the second half of the 1930s, having large success with two songs, "Maramao perché sei morto?" and "Pippo non lo sa", which also raised some controversies as they were accused of mocking some important Fascist personalities (Costanzo Ciano and Achille Starace, respectively). "When the Saints Go Marching In", often referred to as simply "The Saints", is a traditional black spiritual. It originated as a Christian hymn and is often played by jazz bands. This song was famously recorded on May 13, 1938, by Louis Armstrong and his orchestra. The song is sometimes confused with a similarly titled composition "When the Saints Are Marching In" from 1896 by Katharine Purvis (lyrics) and James Milton Black (music). Origins and usage The origins of this song are unclear.
