Fishermen's Village (Florida)
Fishermen's Village is a waterfront shopping, entertainment, and resort complex located along Charlotte Harbor in Punta Gorda, Florida. It includes over 30 shops and restaurants and The Suites accommodations located on the second floor. It also includes a full service marina. Live music and other forms of entertainment are also common at Fishermen's Village History While Fishermen's Village was established in 1980, the pier on which it resides was built in 1928. Known then as the Maud Street City Dock, it was built to replace the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad's dock at King Street (which itself was built in 1897 to replace the original 4,200 foot "Long Dock" located about a mile west of the current Fishermen's Village). The King Street dock needed to be demolished to make room for the construction of the original Barron Collier Bridge. Charlotte Harbor (estuary)
Charlotte Harbor Estuary, the second largest bay in Florida, is located on the Gulf of Mexico coast of west Florida with two thirds lying in Charlotte County, Florida and one in Lee County. Atlantic Coast Line Railroad
The Atlantic Coast Line Railroad was a United States Class I railroad formed in 1900, though predecessor railroads had used the ACL brand since 1871. In 1967 it merged with long-time rival Seaboard Air Line Railroad to form the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad. Much of the original ACL network has been part of CSX Transportation since 1986. The Atlantic Coast Line served the Southeast, with a concentration of lines in Florida. Numerous named passenger trains were operated by the railroad for Florida-bound tourists, with the Atlantic Coast Line contributing significantly to Florida's economic development in the first half of the 20th century. Barron Collier Bridge
The Barron Collier Bridge is a bridge in Charlotte County, Florida that crosses the Peace River (Florida), Peace River connecting Punta Gorda, Florida and Port Charlotte, Florida. It is 45 feet tall and carries two northbound lanes of U.S. Route 41 in Florida, U.S. Route 41 (Tamiami Trail). The southbound lanes cross the river on the adjacent Gilchrist Bridge. It was named for Barron Collier, Barron G. Collier, a wealthy Southwest Florida land owner and entrepreneur. Punta Gorda Linear Park
The Punta Gorda Linear Park is a mile-long rail trail in Punta Gorda, Florida. It runs from Cross Street (US 41) near Helen Avenue southeast though a residential neighborhood to Fishermen's Village. Despite its short length, it connects to the Harborwalk at Fishermen's Village, which runs an additional two and a half miles northeast along the Peace River. Earl Nightingale V (March 12, 1921 – March 25, 1989) was an American radio speaker and author, dealing mostly with the subjects of human character development, motivation, and meaningful existence. He was the voice during the early 1950s of ''Sky King'', the hero of a radio adventure series, and was a WGN radio program host from 1950 to 1956.
