Fishbourne Roman Palace
Fishbourne Roman Palace (or Fishbourne Villa) is located in the village of Fishbourne, Chichester in West Sussex. The palace is the largest Roman residence north of the Alps. and has an unusually early date of 75 CE, around thirty years after the Roman conquest of Britain. Much of the palace has been excavated and is preserved, along with an on-site museum. The rectangular palace surrounded formal gardens, the northern parts of which have been reconstructed. Extensive alterations were made in the second and third centuries CE, when many of the original black and white mosaics were overlaid with more sophisticated coloured work, including the perfectly preserved Dolphin mosaic in the north wing. More alterations were in progress when the palace burnt down in around 270 CE, after which it was abandoned. Fishbourne is a village and civil parish in the Chichester District of West Sussex, England and is situated two miles () west of Chichester. The Anglican parish of Fishbourne, formerly New Fishbourne, is in the Diocese of Chichester. The population in 1861 was 347. The parish church is dedicated to St Peter and St Mary. Fishbourne, Isle Of Wight
Fishbourne is a village between Wootton and Ryde, on the Isle of Wight. The name "Fishbourne" might mean "stream of fish" or "fish spring." It is positioned on the eastern bank of Wootton Creek, and includes the terminal for the Wightlink car ferry from Portsmouth. Fishbourne, together with the adjoining Kite Hill area, became a civil parish in 2006 and has a parish council. The parish includes the ruined Norman abbey (founded 1132) and the Benedictine monastery including Quarr Abbey (founded in the early 1900s). The Royal Victoria Yacht Club and the 'Fishbourne Inn' are located near the ferry terminal. Public transport is provided by Southern Vectis bus routes 4 and 9, which stop on the main road, and operate to East Cowes, Newport and Ryde. William Fishbourn
William Fishbourn or Fishbourne (June 25, 1677 in Talbot, Maryland – May 27, 1742 in Philadelphia) was a wealthy merchant and mayor of Philadelphia for three one-year terms, 1719 to 1722. Family Fishbourn was the son of Ralph Fishbourne and Sarah Lewis. Before 1700, he settled in Philadelphia. There, on January 8, 1702, he married Hannah Carpenter (March 3, 1685 – July 25, 1728), daughter of Samuel Carpenter Samuel Carpenter (4 November 1649 – 10 April 1714) was a Deputy Governor of colonial Pennsylvania.
