West Isles Parish, New Brunswick
West Isles is a civil parish in Charlotte County, New Brunswick, Canada, comprising a single local service district (LSD), which is a member of the Southwest New Brunswick Service Commission (SNBSC). The parish contains dozens of offshore islands but only the largest, Deer Island, is inhabited. There are no bridges and only Deer Island has ferry service. Origin of name Historian William Francis Ganong considered the name to come from the islands' position. History West Isles was erected in 1786 as one of the original parishes of the county, including Deer Island, Campobello, and Grand Manan, and islands in Cobscook Bay claimed by Britain. Fish Island is an island on the western shore of Lake Michigan in the eastern part of the town of Washington in Door County, Wisconsin Door County is the easternmost county in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. Motukaraka Island
Motukaraka Island (Island of Karaka) is a uninhabited island off the coast of Beachlands in Auckland, New Zealand with historical significance and a rich history of Māori occupation. The island is flat and approximately 15m above sea level with access from the mainland via a raised shellbank for approximately two hours either side of low tide. The rocks surrounding the island are a popular day trip and fishing destination, although access to the top of the island is difficult due to the steep cliffs around it. There have been numerous other places named "Motukaraka" throughout New Zealand, including in the Auckland suburb of Green Bay, and in the Hokianga Harbour. The Lakes ( da, Søerne) in Copenhagen, Denmark is a row of three rectangular lakes curving around the western margin of the City Centre, forming one of the oldest and most distinctive features of the city's topography. The paths around them are popular with strollers, bikers and runners. History Originally the area, which the lakes now form, was one long stream. It had an arch shape and was just outside the city levees. In the early Middle Ages, a need of water for watermills was determined. As a result of this a dam was built and the Peblinge Sø was created. As a result of a siege of Copenhagen in 1523, it was decided to expand the entrenchments in order to improve the fortifications of the city.
