Fish Creek Provincial Park
Fish Creek Park is an urban provincial park that preserves the valley of Fish Creek in the southern part of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It is bordered on three sides by the city, and on the west by the territory of the Tsuu T’ina Nation (Sarcee), a First Nation. Much of the park remains in a natural, forested state. Fish Creek flows throughout its length, joining the Bow River on the east side of the park, and there is an artificial lake that offers swimming. With more than of paved and unpaved trails, the park is a popular area for hiking and biking, as well as for picnicking, swimming, fishing, and observing wildlife. Fish Creek Park is the second-largest urban park in Canada after Rouge National Urban Park in the Greater Toronto Area, Ontario, and followed by Pippy Park in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. Fish Creek is a tributary of the South Saskatchewan River in Saskatchewan, Canada, north-east of Saskatoon. From its source near Aberdeen it flows north-east until it turns north to enter the South Saskatchewan River. It is notable as the site of the Battle of Tourond's Coulee/Fish Creek during the North-West Rebellion of 1885 between General Frederick Middleton of the Canadian Militia and Gabriel Dumont, adjutant general of the Metis Provisional Government of Saskatchewan. It also gives its name to the surrounding rural municipality. The area is part of the aspen parkland biome. Fish Creek was the southern border of the Southbranch Settlement of French Métis who settled in the Saskatchewan Valley region in the mid to late 19th Century. They knew it as Tourond's Coulee. The Clackamas River is an approximately tributary of the Willamette River in northwestern Oregon, in the United States. Draining an area of about , the Clackamas flows through mostly forested and rugged mountainous terrain in its upper reaches, and passes agricultural and urban areas in its lower third. The river rises in eastern Marion County, about east-southeast of Salem. The headwaters are on the slopes of Olallie Butte in the Mount Hood National Forest, about north of Mount Jefferson, at an elevation of in the Cascade Range. Fish Creek is a small dairy farming community in Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. It sits in between the Boon wurrung and Gunai/Kurnai Indigenous regions. At the 2016 census, Fish Creek and the surrounding area had a population of 827. It was named for the many river blackfish in the creek that runs alongside the town. History Fish Creek was first settled in 1886 when land was selected and cleared in the densely forested region, soon after, dairy cattle began grazing. The Post Office opened on 6 October 1890 next to the proposed railway which arrived in 1892. In 1900 a community hall was built where the Butter Factory building stands today. This hall was used as a church by everyone until in 1904 when a new Catholic church was built. Not long after that the Union Church was opened and since then the town has had two churches.
