Firstar Corporation was a Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based regional bank holding company that existed from 1853 to 2001. In 2001, Firstar acquired U.S. Bancorp and assumed its name, moving its headquarters to Minneapolis. History Firstar was founded in 1853 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as Farmer's and Millers Bank. It became First Wisconsin National Bank in 1919 as a result of internal evolution as well as mergers. First Wisconsin Corporation In 1929, First Wisconsin reorganized as a holding company, Wisconsin Bankshares Corporation, for the purpose of acquiring other banks. The holding company was renamed First Wisconsin Bankshares Corporation in 1960. In 1974, the name of holding company was changed again to First Wisconsin Corporation and finally to Firstar Corporation in 1988. Roger Fitzsimonds
Roger Fitzsimonds was the Chairperson, chairman and Chief executive officer, CEO of Firstar Corporation (now US Bancorp) from 1986 to 1999. He joined the then First Wisconsin National Bank of Milwaukee in 1964 as a management trainee and managerial and administrative positions in branches in Milwaukee and Green Bay, Wisconsin, Green Bay afterwards. He became the vice president of the company in 1973, and president and chief operating officer in 1986. He assumed the same responsibilities for the holding company, Firstar Corporation, in 1987. He retired in 1999. During his term, Firstar Corporation undergone rapid expansion, growing from a regional bank into a large national bank. Jerry Grundhofer (born 1945) is the former CEO and Chairman of U.S. Bancorp. Education He graduated from Seattle University in 1965. Career Jerry was a vice president of Security Pacific Bank and Bank of America in the early 1990s. He left Bank of America to join Star Banc Corporation in 1993. In 1993, he became the CEO of Star Banc Corporation and held that position until 1998, when it merged with Firstar Corporation, where he continued as CEO. He became the CEO of U.S. Bancorp when it merged with Firstar in February 2001, and then chairman of the board in 2002, succeeding his brother John F. Grundhofer. Elkhorn is a city in Walworth County, Wisconsin, United States. It is located southwest of Milwaukee. As of the 2020 census, it was home to 10,247 people, up from 10,084 at the 2010 census. The ''Racine Journal Times'' (since 1972 officially styled ''The Journal Times'') is an American daily newspaper published in Racine, Wisconsin. The paper serves the entire Racine County area. History The ''Journal Times'' traces its roots to the 1852 foundation of the ''Racine Weekly Journal'', which became a daily in 1856. The ''Journal'' was sold during the American Civil War to former state senator and commanding officer of the 22nd Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry (the "Abolition Regiment") William L. Utley. Utley and his family published the paper for some time, but by 1875 had sold it to Frank Starbuck, son of the publisher of ''The Times'' of Cincinnati, who had been serving as co-publisher since 1873.
