''First Performance'' is a Canadian dramatic television series which aired on CBC Television from 1956 to 1958. Premise These short series of television plays were produced as a promotion for Canada Savings Bonds. Scheduling The first season of this 90-minute series was broadcast on Wednesdays at 10:00 p.m. (Eastern) during October 1956. The second season (1957) aired Thursdays at 9:30 p.m., also during the month of October. The final 1958 season was broadcast Tuesdays 9:30 p.m. in October, with the last broadcast on 4 November 1958. CBC Television
CBC Television (also known as CBC TV) is a Canadian English-language broadcast television network owned by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, the national public broadcaster. The network began operations on September 6, 1952. Its French-language counterpart is Ici Radio-Canada Télé. Frances Hyland
Frances Hyland (April 25, 1927 – July 11, 2004) was a Canadian stage, film and television actress. She earned recognition for roles on stage (including ten seasons with Stratford Festival) and screen (including her performance as Nanny Louisa on '' Road to Avonlea''). Honoured with the Governor General's Performing Arts Award in 1994, she was called "the first lady of Canadian theatre". Early life and education Hyland was born in 1927 in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, a small town south-west of Swift Current, to Jessie (née Worden), a teacher, and Thomas Hyland, a salesman. She lived there until her parents divorced when she was one year old. She was raised by her mother's family in Ogema, Saskatchewan. When she was seven, she moved to Regina when her parents tried, and failed, to save their marriage. She had no relationship with her father after 1937. Queen's University at Kingston, commonly known as Queen's University or simply Queen's, is a public research university in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Queen's holds more than of land throughout Ontario and owns Herstmonceux Castle in East Sussex, England. Queen's is organized into eight faculties and schools. The Church of Scotland established Queen's College in October 1841 via a royal charter from Queen Victoria. Patrick Macnee
Daniel Patrick Macnee (6 February 1922 – 25 June 2015) was a British film and television actor. After serving in the Royal Navy during World War II, he began his acting career in Canada. John Robert Roy Drainie (April 1, 1916 – October 30, 1966) was a Canadian actor and television presenter, who was called "the greatest radio actor in the world" by Orson Welles. Drainie was most famous in Canada for two long-running roles: the lead role of Jake in the radio adaptation of W. O. Mitchell's ''Jake and the Kid'', and a popular one-man stage show in which he played humourist Stephen Leacock.
