First Lady or First Gentleman of Costa Rica (Spanish language, Spanish: ''Primera dama o Primer caballero de Costa Rica'') is the title of the wife or husband of the president of Costa Rica. Traditionally, the president's wife was colloquially known as ''la presidenta'' ("the president", with a feminine -a ending). The current term was first used under Federico Alberto Tinoco Granados. Operations The Office of First Lady of First Gentleman is allocated no official funding from the government budget of Costa Rica. Instead, the office and officeholder relies on private donations to cover the expenses. Signe Zeikate (Riga, Latvian SSR, Soviet Union, February 2, 1972) is a Latvian economist and was director of the "Programme for the Development of Poor Countries" of the World Bank. Vicente Herrera Zeledón
Vicente de las Mercedes Herrera Zeledón (A.K.A. Jamón) (20 January 1821 – 10 November 1888) was President of Costa Rica from 30 July 1876 to 11 September 1877. He came to power in the coup d'état that deposed President Aniceto Esquivel and resigned in favor of Gen. Tomás Guardia the following year. Biography He was the son of José Cleto Herrera Salazar (born 1798–1880) and Antonia Zeledón Masís (born in 1854). He graduated in philosophy in 1839 at the Teaching House of St. Thomas in San José, Costa Rica, and in May 1846 he moved to Guatemala, where he obtained in 1849 the title of doctor of law at the University of San Carlos Borromeo. Emilia Solórzano Alfaro (December 8, 1835 – July 18, 1914) was the First Lady of Costa Rica during the periods of 1870–1876 and 1877–1882. She was born in Alajuela on December 8, 1835, to her parents Rafael del Pilar Solórzano y Alvarado and María Canuta Alfaro y González. José Bruno Carranza Ramírez (October 5, 1822 – January 25, 1891) was briefly President of Costa Rica (albeit with the title ''Temporary Head of the Republic'') in 1870. Bruno Carranza came to power in the coup d'état of 27 April 1870 that deposed President Jesús Jiménez. He resigned three months later. His parents were Miguel Carranza Fernández (Vice-Head of State between 1838 and 1841) and Joaquina Ramírez y García.
