Howard Vernon (15 July 1908 – 25 July 1996) was a Swiss actor. In 1961, he became a favorite actor of Spanish film director Jesús Franco and began starring in many low-budget horror and erotic films produced in Spain and France. After portraying Franco's mad doctor character Dr. Orloff, he eventually appeared in a total of 40 Franco films, in addition to his roles for numerous other directors. Life and career Vernon was born Mario Lippert in Baden-Baden, Germany, to a Swiss father and an American mother, and was fluent in German, English and French. Originally a stage and radio actor, he worked primarily in France and became a well-known supporting actor after 1945 by playing villainous Nazi officers in post-war French films. Jacqueline Joubert (29 March 1921 – 8 January 2005), born Jacqueline Annette Édith Pierre, was a French television continuity announcer, producer and director. Alongside Arlette Accart, Joubert was one of the first two in-vision continuity announcers (or ''speakerines'') when television commenced in France after the Second World War. Life She was married to the journalist Georges de Caunes (1953–60), was the mother of Canal+ TV star Antoine de Caunes, and the grandmother of actress Emma de Caunes. She had also been married to Philippe Lagier. Alongside continuity duties, she presented the 1959 and 1961 Eurovision Song Contests from Cannes. Philippe Parès (1 January 1901 – 2 February 1979) was a 20th-century French composer of film scores, d'operettas and light music. Biography The son of Gabriel Parès, music conductor of the Republican Guard (France), Republican Guard, Philippe Parès met Georges Van Parys in the beginning of the 20s. Georges Van Parys, one year younger, commenced from 1925 to compose little pieces (one-act operettas or musical sketches) and songs. In 1927, they collaborated for the first time on ''La Petite dame du train bleu'', which was created in Lyon. The same year, ''Lulu'' was presented in Paris, at the Théâtre Daunou. Jacques Dumesnil (born Marie Émile Eugène André Joly; November 9, 1903 – May 8, 1998) was a French film and television actor. Early life Jacques Dumesnil was born as Marie Émile Eugène André Joly on November 9, 1903 in Paris, France. Before becoming an actor, he received training as a mechanical engineer. After starting as a secretary at the aviation school, he became an industrial designer, a profession he left to devote himself to the theater. Career He adopted the pseudonym Dumesnil because of the admiration he had to French actor Camille Dumény. He started out as a fanciful singer in a café located in Paris Place de l'Hôtel de Ville, he was paid in sandwiches and glasses of beer.
