Harvey Samuel Firestone
Harvey Samuel Firestone (December 20, 1868 – February 7, 1938) was an American businessman, and the founder of the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, one of the first global makers of automobile tires. Family background Firestone was born on the Columbiana, Ohio farm built by his paternal grandfather. He was the second of Benjamin and Catherine ( née Flickinger) Firestone's three sons; Benjamin had a son and a daughter by his first wife. In 1983 the original farm was disassembled and moved to Greenfield Village, an historical site founded by Henry Ford, and is now part of a larger outdoor museum. Firestone's paternal great-great-great-grandfather, Hans Nicholas Feuerstein, immigrated from Berg, Bas-Rhin, France, in 1753, and settled in Pennsylvania. Elizabeth Parke Firestone
Elizabeth Parke Firestone (1897–1990) was the mother of Martha Firestone, who wed William Clay Ford Sr., grandson of Henry Ford. She is the daughter of Guy James Parke and Gertrude Chambers, and daughter-in-law of Harvey Firestone. Between 1915 and 1975, she acquired extraordinary clothes which today are on display at the Benson Ford Research Center. Her grandson William Clay Ford Jr., is the current chairman of the Board of Directors for Ford Motor Company. He had previously served as the chief executive officer and chief operating officer of Ford. Personal life On June 25, 1921, Firestone married Harvey S. Firestone Jr. (1898-1973). Leonard Firestone
Leonard Kimball Firestone (June 10, 1907 – December 24, 1996) was an American businessman, diplomat, and philanthropist. Early life and education He was born on June 10, 1907 in Akron, Ohio, to Harvey S. Firestone and Idabelle Smith Firestone. He was educated at The Hill School, and graduated from Princeton University in 1931, where he played golf and polo. He was a member of Alpha Kappa Psi, and later became a member of Bohemian Grove. Career Business After graduating from college, Firestone was employed by the family company in sales positions. In 1935, he was appointed sales manager and in 1939, became a director of Firestone. He was named president of Firestone Aviation Products Co. in 1941. He was commissioned in the United States Navy as a lieutenant, but was assigned to inactive status to become president of Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. in 1943. Anthony Brooks Firestone (born June 18, 1939) is an American businessman and politician. The son of Leonard Firestone, a grandson of Harvey Samuel Firestone and Idabelle Smith, and a nephew of Harvey Firestone, Jr., he was educated at The Webb School, and graduated from Columbia College with an A.B in economics in 1961. He worked for Firestone until 1972, when he quit the company, and moved his family to the Santa Ynez Valley. He represented the 35th District in the California State Assembly for two terms (1994–1998). In 1998, he ran for the United States House of Representatives to succeed the late Walter Capps, but lost the Republican nomination to Tom Bordonaro, who went on to lose the general election to Lois Capps, the widow of the prior incumbent. Nicholas Stanley Firestone (born March 31, 1966) is an American former race car driver. A great-grandson of Harvey Samuel Firestone (founder of the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company) and Idabelle Smith Firestone, Idabelle Smith, grandson of Roger (1912–1970) and son of Peter, he graduated from Princeton University in 1989. George Firestone (May 13, 1931 – March 2, 2012) was an American politician and businessman from the U.S. state of Florida. A Democrat, He served as the 20th Florida Secretary of State from 1979 to 1987. Early life Firestone was born in New York City in 1931. He moved to Miami, Florida with his family as a child in 1936.
