''Fire Island'' is a 2022 American romantic comedy film directed by Andrew Ahn, and written by and starring Joel Kim Booster. The film co-stars Bowen Yang, Conrad Ricamora, James Scully, and Margaret Cho. Inspired by Jane Austen's '' Pride and Prejudice'', the story follows a group of gay friends who go on vacation to Fire Island, only for things to become complicated by classism and romance. Distributed and produced by Searchlight Pictures, the film was released on Hulu on June 3, 2022. The film received generally positive reviews. Plot Every year, Noah and his close friends Howie, Luke, Keegan, and Max embark on a weeklong vacation to Fire Island, noted for its gay villages. Andrew Ahn (born 1985/1986) is an American film director and screenwriter who has directed the feature films ''Spa Night'' (2016), ''Driveways'' (2019), and ''Fire Island'' (2022). Early life Andrew Ahn was born and raised in Los Angeles. He is the son of Korean immigrants. He graduated from Brown University with a degree in English and received a Masters in Fine Arts (MFA) in Film Directing from the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). Sayville is a hamlet and census-designated place in Suffolk County, New York, United States. Located on the South Shore of Long Island in the Township of Islip, the population of the CDP was 16,853 at the time of the 2010 census. History The earliest known inhabitants of Sayville were the Secatogue tribe of the Algonquian peoples. Sayville was founded by John Edwards (b. 1738) of East Hampton, New York.
