''Fire Away'' is the fifth studio album by American band Ozomatli. It was released on April 20, 2007, through Downtown Music. Production was handled by Tony Berg. The album peaked at number 189 on the ''Billboard'' 200 and number 31 on the Independent Albums chart in the United States. Critical reception ''Fire Away'' was met with generally favorable reviews from music critics. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream publications, the album received an average score of 64, based on nine reviews. Ayala Ben-Yehuda of ''Billboard'' praised the album, stating: "on its fifth studio album, "Fire Away", Ozomatli shows a remarkable ability to innovate with its most expansive and energetic set in years". They are known both for their vocal activist viewpoints and incorporating a wide array of musical styles – including salsa, jazz, funk, reggae, hip hop, and others. The group formed in 1995 and has since released seven studio albums. The group is also known for advocating for farm-workers' rights and immigration reform. The band has performed in various countries all over the world, including China, Tunisia, Jordan, Cuba, and Burma. Although the band has had many member changes over the years and has sometimes had as many as ten members, the current six members have been in the band since its debut album. In 1998, Ozomatli released its self-titled debut album, and soon after opened for Santana on their Supernatural Tour. Shane Patrick Lysaght MacGowan (born 25 December 1957) is an Irish singer, songwriter, and musician. He is best known as the lead singer and songwriter of Celtic punk band the Pogues. Wil-Dog Abers
Willy "Wil-Dog" Abers is a bassist primarily for the LA-based Ozomatli band, but has also played in Los Super Seven, a Latin rock supergroup. Early life Wil-Dog, also sometimes called "Breakdance Willy" as he is an accomplished breakdancer. He is of Jewish descent. His father was in the Revolutionary Communist Party, and he was raised mostly by his grandparents. From an early age, he saw, first-hand, police violence, racism, and anti-Semitism. He dropped out of high-school in the 11th grade and spent all his time stealing, smoking marijuana, and living out of his car. Rhythm and blues, frequently abbreviated as R&B or R'n'B, is a genre of popular music that originated in African-American communities in the 1940s. Funk
Funk is a music genre that originated in African American communities in the mid-1960s when musicians created a rhythmic, danceable new form of music through a mixture of various music genres that were popular among African Americans in the mid-20th century. Salsa music is a style of Latin American music. Because most of the basic musical components predate the labeling of salsa, there have been many controversies regarding its origin. Most songs considered as salsa are primarily based on son montuno, with elements of Mambo (music), mambo, Latin jazz, Bomba (Puerto Rico), bomba, plena and guaracha. All of these elements are adapted to fit the basic son montuno template when performed within the context of salsa. Weighted Arithmetic Mean
The weighted arithmetic mean is similar to an ordinary arithmetic mean (the most common type of average), except that instead of each of the data points contributing equally to the final average, some data points contribute more than others. The notion of weighted mean plays a role in descriptive statistics and also occurs in a more general form in several other areas of mathematics. If all the weights are equal, then the weighted mean is the same as the arithmetic mean. Standard Score
In statistics, the standard score is the number of standard deviations by which the value of a raw score (i.e., an observed value or data point) is above or below the mean value of what is being observed or measured.
