Fionnuala Carr
Fionnuala Carr is a camogie player from Clonduff, County Down, Northern Ireland. She is the winner of two Soaring Star awards in 2010 and 2011 and an Ashbourne All Star in 2011. She was on the Down team that contested the 2011 Kay Mills Cup final. Her father Ross Carr was an All Ireland football medalist in 1991 and 1994 and her sister Sarah-Louise plays full forward for Down. Down GAA
The Down County Board ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae An Dún) or Down GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) in Ireland, and is responsible for the administration of Gaelic games in County Down, Northern Ireland. The County Board is responsible for preparing the Down county teams in the various Gaelic sporting codes; football, hurling, camogie and handball. The county football team was the second from the province of Ulster to win an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC), following Cavan, and also the first team from Northern Ireland to win the Sam Maguire Cup since partition, doing so in 1960. The team won the cup again in 1961 and in 1968; this feat was not matched by another team until Down next won the All-Ireland SFC in its 1991 victory. Ross Carr
Ross Carr is a former Senior Gaelic football manager and former inter-county player for Down. Carr had previously managed the Down Minor Football team in 2003 and 2004. Carr was assisted by DJ Kane, Declan Mussen and Michael Doyle during his management period at Down. Carr won two All-Ireland medals with the Mourne county in 1991 and 1994. Carr finished as top scorer in the Ulster senior football championship of 1991,scoring 21 points over all he scored 30 points and also won an All-Star award at right half-forward that same year. Carr previously managed Co Monaghan side Castleblayney Faughs. Kay Mills Cup
The All-Ireland Junior Camogie Championship is a competition for third-tier county teams in the women's field sport of camogie and for second-string teams of first-tier counties. In accordance with the practice in GAA competitions the term junior applies to the level of competition rather than the age group. The 2021 championship was contested by Armagh, Cavan, Roscommon and the second teams of Antrim, Clare, Down, Limerick, Kildare, Waterford and Wexford. History The competition was established in 1969 for the New Ireland Cup. The name was changed to the Kay Mills Cup in honour of former player Kathleen Mills in 2010. In 2006 the second teams of the first-tier camogie counties were removed from the competition. 2011 Ashbourne Cup
The 2011 Ashbourne Cup inter-collegiate camogie championship was staged at the NUIG sports complex in Dangan, Galway over the weekend of February 19–20 with the finals in Pearse Stadium, Salthill. It was won by Waterford Institute of Technology who defeated University College Cork in the final by eight points, a repeat of the pairing and result, though not the margin of victory, of the 1999 final and 2010 final. Player of the tournament was WIT's Katrina Parrock. The Final A dominant WIT team did all the hard work in the first half and raced into a 1–6 to 0–1 lead at the break. The first score of the game came from a long Katrina Parrock delivery which deceived UCC keeper, Susan Earner, to find its way to the UCC net. UCC had no answer to WITs phenomenal work rate and support play. The main difference between the two teams was WIT ability to take scores from play while all of UCC's scores came from placed balls. The Ashbourne Cup is an Irish camogie tournament played each year to determine the national champion university or third level college. The Ashbourne Cup is the highest division in inter-collegiate camogie. The competition features many of the current stars of the game and is sometimes known as the 'Olympics of Camogie' because of the disproportionate number of All Star and All-Ireland elite level players who participate each year Since 1972 it has been administered by thHigher Educationcommittee of the Camogie Association.
