The Football Association of Finland ( fi, Suomen Palloliitto, abbr. SPL; sv, Finlands Bollförbund) is the governing body of football in Finland. It was founded in Helsinki on 19 May 1907. The SPL organises the men's and women's national football teams, and the second and third tiers of national football. The premier division Veikkausliiga is organized by a distinct organisation, and the lower tiers (the fourth tier and below) are organized by the 12 district organisations. The SPL is based in the Finnish capital city of Helsinki. Background The SPL has more than 1,000 member clubs and approximately 140,000 registered players. Juhani Peltonen
Juhani Peltonen (born 16 June 1936) is a retired Finnish association football player. Peltonen was the first Finnish player to play in the German Bundesliga. The forward made 38 appearances for Hamburger SV between 1964 and 1966, scoring six goals. His career in Germany ended after only two seasons because of contract disputes. In Finland Peltonen always represented Valkeakosken Haka, winning two Finnish championships and five Finnish Cups with the club. For the Finnish national team he made 68 appearances, scoring 11 goals. He was chosen Finnish Player of the Year three times. Kai Pahlman
Kai Pahlman (8 July 1935 – 8 March 2013) was a Finnish association football forward and coach. Between 1954 and 1968 he capped 56 times for the Finland national football team, scoring 13 goals. At club level Pahlman played for HPS, HJK and Reipas. Pahlman invented the curl ball, that he called The Banana Shot. Pahlman was the son of Finnish musician Helge Pahlman and an accomplished piano player and composer.
