Finlay, Texas
Finlay, Texas is a ghost town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States, west of Sierra Blanca. The community was named after J.R. Finlay. It had two post offices. One was built in 1890, but never opened. The other was established in 1903. Finlay slowly grew in the early 20th century, but the last population figure was one hundred inhabitants in the 1940s. Hudspeth County, Texas
Hudspeth County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, the population was 3,202. Its county seat is Sierra Blanca, and the largest community is Fort Hancock. The county is named for Claude Benton Hudspeth, a state senator and United States Representative from El Paso. It is northeast of the Mexico–U.S. border. Hudspeth County is included in the El Paso Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is one of the nine counties that comprise the Trans-Pecos region of West Texas. Hudspeth is one of two Texas counties to entirely observe Mountain Time, along with neighboring El Paso, while Culberson County partly observes it (in the northwest region, as the rest of the county observes Central Time). Originally, it covered the north-western part of the state, north of Austin and west of Fort Worth, and stretched from the Oklahoma border to the Mexican border. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau. Sierra Blanca, Texas
Sierra Blanca is an unincorporated area in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. It is also the county seat of the county and the namesake of a census-designated place (CDP) in which it is located. The town is part of the Trans-Pecos region of far West Texas, is located northeast of the Mexican border and is within the Mountain Time Zone. As of the 2010 census, its population was 553. The town was founded in 1881 at the completion point of a long-sought southern transcontinental railway. Sierra Blanca has served as the junction of the Southern Pacific and Missouri Pacific railroads. Hudspeth County was formed in 1917 from El Paso County.
