"Finished" is a science fiction short story by American writer L. Sprague de Camp, part of his '' Viagens Interplanetarias'' series. It was first published in the magazine ''Astounding Science Fiction'' in the issue for November, 1949. It first appeared in book form in the collection ''The Continent Makers and Other Tales of the Viagens'', published in hardcover by Twayne Publishers in 1953 and in paperback by Signet Books in November, 1971. Plot summary An interplanetary conference between ''Viagens'' officials of the Tau Ceti system being held in Novorecife on the planet Krishna is interrupted by an unusual situation in customs; Ahmad Akelawi, a Terran visitor to Krishna is attempting to take a native mummy to Earth. Cristôvão Abreu, the local security chief, excuses himself to investigate. Tau Ceti, Latinized from τ Ceti, is a single star in the constellation Cetus that is spectrally similar to the Sun, although it has only about 78% of the Sun's mass. At a distance of just under from the Solar System, it is a relatively nearby star and the closest solitary G-class star. The star appears stable, with little stellar variation, and is metal-deficient relative to the Sun. It can be seen with the unaided eye with an apparent magnitude of 3.5. It was first published in book form as a paperback by Ace Books in 1954 as an "Ace Double" issued back-to-back with Clifford D. Simak's novel '' Ring Around the Sun''.
