Andrew Bird
Andrew Wegman Bird (born July 11, 1973) is an American indie rock multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter. Since 1996, he has released 16 studio albums, as well as several live albums and EPs, spanning various genres including swing music, indie rock, and folk music. He is primarily known for his unique style of violin playing, accompanied by loop and effect pedals, whistling, and voice. In the 1990s, he sang and played violin in several jazz ensembles, including Squirrel Nut Zippers and Kevin O'Donnell's Quality Six. He went on to start his own swing ensemble, Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire, which released three albums between 1998 and 2001. ''Weather Systems'' (2003) was his first solo album after Bowl of Fire disbandment, and it marked a departure from jazz music into indie music. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Independent labels such as Flying Nun Records, Flying Nun began to promote the scene across New Zealand, inspiring key college rock bands in the United States such as Pavement (band), Pavement, Pixies (band), Pixies and R.E.M. Weather Systems (Andrew Bird Album)
''Weather Systems'', released in 2003, is Andrew Bird's second solo album and his first after disbanding Bowl of Fire. Bird has said that the album was simply a side project during his four or five year recording of ''Andrew Bird & the Mysterious Production of Eggs''. At least two of the songs on the album suggest this fact: "I" is a slower, more dreary version of ''Armchair Apocrypha'' "Imitosis," and "Skin" is a similarly slow, instrumental version of ''The Mysterious Production of Eggs'' "Skin is, My." The disk features an eight-minute film by Bob Trondson about Bird and the recording of the album. The cover art was done by Jay Ryan. The first track, "First Song," borrows its title and most of its lyrics from a poem in Galway Kinnell's book, ''What a Kingdom It Was'', published in 1960. ''Andrew Bird & the Mysterious Production of Eggs'' is the third album of Andrew Bird's career post-Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire, Bowl of Fire, released in 2005, following his ''Weather Systems (Andrew Bird album), Weather Systems'' in 2003. The album art, along with track illustrations in the accompanying booklet were drawn by Jay Ryan (artist), Jay Ryan. Bird expanded on his earlier work on ''Weather Systems''; the song "Skin Is, My" is an outgrowth of his earlier song "Skin". Reception "Fake Palindromes" was listed as the 331st best song of the 2000s by the music website ''Pitchfork (website), Pitchfork''. ''Pitchfork'' also placed the album at number 181 on their list of top 200 albums of the 2000s. The album has sold 80,000 copies in the United States by November 2008. My Morning Jacket is an American rock band formed in Louisville, Kentucky in 1998. The band consists of vocalist/guitarist Jim James, bassist Tom Blankenship, drummer Patrick Hallahan, guitarist Carl Broemel, and keyboardist Bo Koster. The band's sound, rooted in rock and country, is often experimental and psychedelic. The group amassed a following beginning in the 2000s in part due to their live performances. Nora O’Connor (born April 2, 1968) is an American, Chicago-based musician. Though primarily known for her vocals, O'Connor also plays guitar and bass. For much of 2013, O'Connor toured internationally as a singer in Iron and Wine. She also records and performs with longtime collaborator, Andrew Bird. O'Connor plays bass and sings back-up for Kelly Hogan (supporting Hogan's release "I Like To Keep Myself In Pain" on ANTI- Records) and in 2010, Wilco's Jeff Tweedy enlisted O'Connor and Hogan as primary vocalists on gospel legend Mavis Staples’ Grammy Award-winning album ''You Are Not Alone''.
