The Financial Secretary to the War Office and for certain periods known as the Finance Member of the Army Council, was a junior ministerial office of the British government established in 1870. In May 1947 the office was unified with that of the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for War under a new title Parliamentary Under Secretary of State and Financial Secretary of the War Office. Harold John Tennant PC (18 November 1865 – 9 November 1935), often known as Jack Tennant, was a Scottish Liberal politician. He served as Secretary for Scotland under his brother-in-law H. H. Asquith between July and December 1916. Sir Charles Edward Mallet (2 December 1862 – 21 November 1947), was a British historian and Liberal politician. He was knighted in 1917. Life He was the only son of the activist Louisa (born Udny) and Charles Mallet, a civil servant. He was educated at Balliol College, Oxford, and was admitted to Middle Temple on 21 May 1886. Thomas Ryburn Buchanan PC FRSE (2 April 1846 – 7 April 1911) was a Scottish Liberal politician and bibliophile. Background and education He was born in Glasgow the son of John Buchanan of Dowanhill. Joseph Powell Williams (18 November 1840 – 7 February 1904) was an English Liberal and Liberal Unionist politician who was active in local government in Birmingham and sat in the House of Commons from 1885 to 1904. William Woodall (Shrewsbury 15 March 1832 – Llandudno 8 April 1901), was a British Liberal Party (UK), Liberal politician, philanthropist and supporter of women's suffrage. Life He was the elder son of William Woodall, of Shrewsbury, and his wife Martha (née Basson). He was educated at the Crescent Congregational Schools, Liverpool.
