Fina Casalderrey
Fina Casalderrey (born 11 August 1951) is a Spanish writer and educator, considered to be one of the most important writers of Galician children's literature. Life and career She was born in Xeve in Pontevedra and began a career in teaching. She first began writing for the theatre before turning to children's books and later books on gastronomy. She received the Castelao Medal in 2003 and the in 2015. Casalderry is a member of the Royal Galician Academy. Her work has been translated into more than a dozen languages. She has also written scripts for a number of short films. Pontevedra
Pontevedra (, ) is a Spanish city in the north-west of the Iberian Peninsula. It is the capital of both the ''Comarca'' (County) and Province of Pontevedra, and of the Rías Baixas in Galicia. Castelao Medal
The Castelao Medal (Galician: ''Medalla Castelao''), established in 1984, is one of the highest civil distinctions awarded in Galicia, surpassed only by the Medalla de Galicia. The award is presented by the Xunta de Galicia to honour the people and institutions that have created exceptional works in the arts, culture, literature, science, or in any other field that is worthy of distinction. The award can be bestowed upon Galicians whether they reside in Galicia or abroad. The medal was created and named in honour of writer and politician Alfonso Daniel Rodríguez Castelao. History The award was conceived in 1984 and is presented annually on 28 June. Royal Galician Academy
The Royal Galician Academy ( gl, Real Academia Galega, RAG) is an institution dedicated to the study of Galician culture and especially the Galician language; it promulgates norms of grammar, spelling, and vocabulary and works to promote the language. The Academy is based in A Coruña, Galicia, Spain. The current president is Víctor Fernández Freixanes. History In 1905 the Sociedade Protectora da Academia Gallega was founded in La Habana, Cuba. Then on September 30, 1906, thanks to the efforts of writers Manuel Curros Enríquez and Xosé Fontenla Leal, it was reestablished as the ''Real Academia Galega''. Manuel Murguía was its first president. In 1972 the Academy standardized the design of the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Galicia. El Barco de Vapor is a children's Spanish editorial collection created in 1978 and published by Editorial SM. In 2019, it was launched Mi Barco de Vapor, customized books to encourage the reading and teamwork on kids.
