Eugen Filotti
Eugen Filotti (July 28 (July 17 O.S.) 1896 – June 1, 1975) was a Romanian diplomat, journalist and writer. As a diplomat he worked at the League of Nations in Geneva and then as minister plenipotentiary in Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria, and Hungary. As minister plenipotentiary to Budapest he issued transit visas for Jews during the Holocaust. He was secretary general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1944–1945. As writer he published several translations of literary works. Youth Eugen Filotti was born in Bucharest, Romania. His father, Nicolae Filotti was a military pharmacist, having the rank of lieutenant and his mother, Aurelia Filotti (née Felix) was the daughter of doctor Iacob Felix. He was the second child of the family, having a brother Mircea Filotti, his elder by four years. Maria Filotti (9 October 1883, Batogu, Brăila, Batogu, Brăila County, Romania – 5 November 1956, Bucharest, Romania) was a Romanian actress . She was described as one of the "prestigious actors of the great realistic school" and the "directress" of a theater "that made an important contribution to transmitting the experience from one generation to the next." Filotti was the grandmother of Romanian actor, Şerban Cantacuzino (actor), Şerban Cantacuzino. Cantacuzino made his acting debut opposite Filotti in ''The Prince and the Pauper'' at the Bucharest National Theatre when he was eleven years old. Ion Filotti Cantacuzino or Ion I. Cantacuzino (November 7, 1908, Bucharest, Romania – August 27, 1975, Bucharest, Romania) was a Romanian film producer, writer and psychiatrist. Biographic data Ion Filotti Cantacuzino, born in Bucharest on November 7, 1908, was the son of prince Ion Cantacuzino and of actress Maria Filotti. He studied medicine at the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy and philosophy at the University of Bucharesthe graduated from the University of Paris' Faculty of Sciences and Faculty of Medicine, He married Elena Warthiadi and had two sons: historian Gheorghe I. The Maria Filotti is a theatre in Brăila, Romania. The theatre was built in 1896 as "Teatrul Rally". In 1919, it was renamed "Teatrul Comunal" ("The Communal Theatre"), in 1949, "Teatrul del Stat Brăila – Galați" ("The State Theater of Brăila – Galați"), and in 1969, it acquired its present name, in honour of the Romanian actress, Maria Filotti (1883–1956).
