Ascanio Filomarino (1583 – 3 November 1666) was an Italian Roman Catholic cardinal, who was Archbishop of Naples from 1641 to 1666. Early life Filomarino was born in Naples to the noble family of the dukes Della Torre. Eldest of the five sons of Claudio Filomarino and Porzia di Leonessa. Though the family was well-respected, it was nonetheless not a wealthy family. Filomarino was, though, able to obtain a doctorate of law in Benevento and thereafter travelled to Rome (with friend Ladislao d'Aquino who would also later become a cardinal) in an effort to support himself financially.''Pope Alexander the Seventh and the College of Cardinals'' by John Bargrave, edited by James Craigie Robertson (reprint; 2009) There he presented himself to a number of cardinals with a view to being employed by one of them. Career In 2010, Cito Filomarino wrote and directed ''Diarchy'', a short film starring Louis Garrel, Riccardo Scamarcio, and Alba Rohrwacher. It screened at the Locarno Film Festival on 7 August 2010 and the Sundance Film Festival on 21 January 2011. In 2015, he made his feature film directorial debut ''Antonia.'', about poet Antonia Pozzi. Cito Filomarino also directed two short films starring Małgosia Bela, ''Await'' and ''Closing In''. ''(in Latin)'' Biography Gennaro Filomarino was born in 1591 and ordained a priest in the Congregation of Clerics Regular of the Divine Providence. On 18 December 1623, he was appointed during the papacy of Pope Urban VIII as Bishop of Calvi Risorta. On 24 December 1623, he was consecrated bishop by Cosimo de Torres, Cardinal-Priest of San Pancrazio, with Alessandro di Sangro, Archbishop of Benevento, and Giuseppe Acquaviva, Titular Archbishop of ''Thebae'', serving as co-consecrators.
